That's my office up on the 25th floor. We have NO idea just how bad the damage is, but unbelievably, our Network is still up.

This have anything to do with cheap Mexican take-out and colon blow substances?

(I hope no one was hurt)

What's the deal, can you go into the office to check it out, or is it locked down?

Sheet, we won't be back in for at least a week. Damage is real bad, much worse in person than what these photos show. NASTY.

BTW - it IS FTG's fault, right? ;)

Nice. Just heard I'm working from home all week. Building and surrounding streets are closed for the week.

Really bizarre........ local WTHR showed a heli-shot and I see the conference room across the hall from my office and while all the windows are blown out, the tables and chairs are all in the same damn place. and it appears my office is A-OK. Although I'am sure there will be some sort of claim to follow. I'll bet that signed Fangio helmet is missing. Those are pretty spensive to replace, right?

They are letting us in tomorrow for 5 minutes to go git our impo'tent stuff.

What building is that.

Wow, what type of wind does it take to take out a curtian wall!

Wow, what type of wind does it take to take out a curtian wall!

Normally up here, (north of hurricane country), we design curtain walls for highrises like that to withstand a pressure of about 55 lbs/sq. ft. in or out (positive or negative pressure), depending on local codes. In buildings with 90 degree corners like that, often the worst stresses occur near the corner, as those photos would tend to confirm.

In hurricane country, it is not uncommon to design for 75 lbs/sq ft. While it's not exactly a direct correlation to determine wind speed, according to the design theory a building designed for 75 lbs/sq ft will start to fail at 138 mph (A Cat 4 Hurricane). This is based on the simplification of the wind blowing at a right angle or straight into the wall.

Cat3---49.3 psf

Cat5---96.1 psf

Curtain wall testing for very custom systems is fun stuff with full-scale mockups at some very specialized "labs", although we generally only test them until a seal fails or something similar - not until the entire system starts to rip away from the structure.

sorry for techno-bloggin'.

Thought I recognized the building from an Indystar link this morning as your building where those stunt guys rigged the car last year. Figured you might be coming back to a bit of a mess. Hope you didn't really lose a Fangio helmet, (unless of course that was for insurance purposes  )

Relax, alright? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

Looks nasty, Spikkly.

Another severe thorm outbreak is due today in the plains. We've been very fortunate thus far here in Ohiya.
