My English is terrible.

Its amazing how many people try to pluralize a word with an apostrophe. Normally an apostrophe is for a possessive or a contraction with the contraction taking precedence.

Another one: Even MS Word spell check wrongly recommends it's for its (hint: it's = it is or it has; its is possessive)

My personal favorite?
Hands down, 'orientate'.
Uhhh, don't you mean 'orient'?

RaceGrrl

My pet peeves: the mispronunciation of "nuclear" and people who say "irregardless". (orientate is another bad one)

I work with a woman who doesn't know the difference between indigent and indigenous. It annoys me, but I don't have the heart to correct her.

The Internet is the only place for guys who smoked cigarette's and sat in the back during study hall to converse with fruitty cuppers.

Maybe there is a geek forum out there for you, dont give up hope!

the one i come across most often is 'your' instead of 'you're'

Your phone number does not have an 'oh' in it. Niether does your credit card number, or your Social Security number. It is a zero. Zero is a digit, 'oh' is a letter.

For me, I can't stand wankers, liers, fruitti-cuppers, hard-assed nancy-boy knowitalls, trooool loosers, rediculous posts, or infected folks from the Peoples Republic of China.

Thank you for your support.

Hey, I are an engineer, and I still have an excellent command of the English language.

And I don't like to rub others' noses in it either (sorry about the colloqialism). E.g., never use a long, confusing 25-cent word when a clear and diminutive one will do.

Threads like this one that have artificially high thread counts because everyone is jumping in to throw they're 2cents in. I mean, do we really need this kind of thing on a Cart board?? Everyone just posting to try and be funny or run the count up and......

jeez, what am I doing?? I've just added another post to this pointless thread!! Damit! Where's the delete button??? :p

My pet peeve is the television journalist who doesn't know the difference between Calvary (CAL vah ree) and Cavalry (CAV uhl ree).

CAL va ree is the hill where Jesus was crucified.

CAV al ree is what's coming over the hill straight at the Republican Guard. (Or would be if there WERE any Republican Guard.)

Add to that, people who still say "The reason is because" ("The reason is" MEANS "because"), and "He was enthused" -- enthused is a verb; enthusiastic is an adjective. "I can't believe they're going to give me my first race win," said Fisi, who sounded enthusiastic. (or "Fisi enthused").

At this time of the year it probably is a lot like Calvary in Calgary. ;)
