Not getting my hopes up but if they run it I will be there. :D
I'm really glad that Champ Car is persuing this and other potential new venues even with the merger crap talk going on.

I am always looking for a reason to go to Vegas

I despise Las Vegas, but if it's a successful venue, then cool.
Let's see. St.Pete, Long Beach, Motegi and Vegas. That'd be a pretty good/balanced lead-in to a fully stocked I500 and "The Week After" at Milwaukee. Then we can go road racing!

DDB Ventures as the promoter picking up the 6 million tab for the equipment. The google links I see don't make any sense. Anyone have any ideas?
Edit:
Answered my own question I think. Sutton Motorsports Productions is the Denver promoter and owned by CENTRIX Chairman and CEO Robert Sutton.

They already have a race track in Las Vegas.

They already have a race track in Las Vegas.
That a) has never sold for OW (OW's fault though) and b) will now have 18-20 degree banking.
That said, a street show would do well initially, but there's too damn much to do in Vegas, IMHO, for it to sell long-term.

For now. '07 could (I stress COULD) be an altogether different and interesting matter. ;)

Infield road courses don't draw flies and the oval is being turned into yet another NASCAR salad bowl.

Actually, I think the course goes under the tracks at both crossings. In fact if you look at the intersection of Ogden and Main in the google map I linked and switch to Satellite view you can see where the Ogden goes down under the Main St. Station parking lot and the tracks.
I'm not sure if they plan to slow them down at Main street but the transition down into the tunnel under the tracks could be plenty spectacular in its own right. I notice they have hospitality all around the tunnel entrance in the the PDF map. :)

Let's have a street race at Chernobyl while we are at it, the place just needs a little paving and pollution won't be a big issue. I hear the sacrophagus would make a great paddock. It can take place between the New York and Las Vegas street races.

Misprint in the .pdf, but it looks like Champ Car is shooting for a May 20th announcement. The circuit is nice because it is almost 2.5 miles long, but it looks like there is only going to be one quality overtaking spot. The run into the first corner would be a great overtaking corner, but the kink going into it will likely ruin any chance of that happening. Apart for the 90 degree set going around the one building, it looks like this circuit is going to be crazy fast. Reminds me a bit of the Durban street circuit that A1GP ran this winter, that too was a scary fast street circuit, although this one looks a lot safer.
Thankyou for catching my "suggestion" RT, I thought that was an easy pitch.

Unless I've got the wrong street, Ogden actually goes over the tracks (http://local.live.com/?v=2&sp=aN.36.175362_-115.145913_Ogden%20Ave_).
Wouldn't it make more sense to utilize all that open area along the S. Grand Central Pkway, maybe shoot north under the 515 and back down S. Main past the "Experience"? A couple of tunnels would sound nice. Let's see, I'd make that about 2.44 miles! :)...OK, finally saw the whole layout. Interesting. Is "turn" 11 a chicane to slow them before those sweepers leading to S/F? Lots of point and squirt 90s though.

All street races suck. There is no racing. They are nothing but yellow flag generating parades. And that includes Long Beach. Why so many people get so excited when yet another POS "race" is announced escapes me. Can anyone explain it? I am not flaming, I am looking for a serious answer.

That's I515 going over the tracks that you have marked. Ogden (or I guess it's actually becomes S Grand Central Pkwy once it crosses Main) going under the tracks is here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=E+Ogden+Ave+%26+N+Main+St,+Las+Vegas,+NV+89101&t=k&om=1&ll=36.173218,-115.146391&spn=0.001334,0.002733). Now that I look at it closer it appears that the tunnel is divided. Blah. That means probably two lanes at most. My guess is that they'll have a chicane just before the dip into the tunnel to slow them down and get them on one side.

In the case of the New York race I'm pretty sure that we pin-pointed camping as the source of excitment.

From another website.
The city council unanimously approved the race in a 7-0 vote.

Some schmoe testified in that video clip about Vegas being "the first race of the season"? WTF is up with that?
Here (http://www.mikescomputersllc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4646&sid=421760d33fc1df309d0a448f4202d205) is a post at dolanville from someone that appears to have attended the meeting. Sounds positive overall but not a done deal yet. And apparently they have promised Vegas to be the first race of the year.

Why  ? Long Beach would rather not be the season opener.

Every natural terrain road course isn't Road America, either. Just as much passing takes place at Denver and Long Beach as does (did) at Mid Ohio and Laguna Seca.
Plus the non-racing time spent during a weekend in Vegas is a bit more exciting than a in cornfield in Ohio or Wisconsin.
Good chance I'd search for a flight...

Used to be that Long Beach was the third or fourth race of the season, unless you are looking at the years when it was second. Suffice to say it varied but the season opener role is a relatively new & not necessarily welcome thing.

I have 2 problems here.
1. Sorry, I think a Vegas street race is an extraordinarily horrible idea. Oh sure, you'll get crowds the first 2-3 yrs., out of novelty, but it won't last. First, you already have LVMS, which satisfies some actual race fans. Second, there's too much going on in LV too keep urbanites interested.
2. I'm concerned w/ some of the BS proposals from CCWS AND IRL. Too d@mn many street shows. Though, I'm hoping a POTENTIAL merged schedule will actually have fewer streets than anticipated.

Not really. I did enjoy the drag races there for a couple of years but it was strictly on an "until they can afford the right package for Vegas." Now that LVMs is raising the banking that just wasn't going to happen. I'd rather see another street race than an IRL-style pedal mashathon.

Maybe it's a personal preference (or someone spiked my drink with a hint of NASCAR kool-aid), but I feel that a season opener should be a race that has at least solid attendance (hopefully better than average) for the start of the season. Maybe if LV can prove to get above average numbers for a few seasons it can be a season opener, but I'm never a fan of having a new venue start the season.

the only thing Warlock loves more than internet pron is a weekend at RA. Then the LV race will be a match made in heaven. Several turns on the course will come complete with porn shop... or two or three. Then again, it's only a 50mi drive out to the riding academy at Pahrump....
On a more serious note, while I'm not a big street race fan and while this particular neighborhood is a seedy mess, the attraction of being able to walk from your race perch into a casino to kill time between sessions is not lost on me. The food and drink situation will also be superior to most races for the same reason. The downtown casinos may pale next to the monsters on the far end of the Strip, but compared to any other race venue they will rule.

Obviously, you haven't been in downtown Vegas recently. :p
I've been there a dozen times in the last 2 years, and I can count at least half-a-dozen places along the course that have great food (better than most I have had down on the strip).
The best thing(s) about this to me are that we are rated with the Boyd Group (MSS, Cal, Fremont) and...
