"The Car Of Tomorrow!" (If today was 1979.) :gomer:

Every time I see this thing it reminds me of the Olds Cutlass Trans Am series cars from the early 90's (but worse).

Somehow I think you see them bolting them on their own cars

Appearing soon at team merchandise trailers everywhere.

You've gotta know that the teams are readying NASCAR liscensed 2007 rear wings with correct numbers and logos. The dollar signs are rolling in their eyes.

The Superbirds and Daytona's rocked. That's when NASCAR was actually cool.

I agree. First they killed off the engine wars, then they eliminated the aero war, and then they went to aero-matching, and then they... lost me. Somewhere along the timeline in there.

From badasses tearing it up on the beach and frontage road to homogenized, re-processed, flavorless rolling billboards coming to a cookie cutter oval near you.

All I every hear about is the commercial success and driver personalities. When was the last time anyone wrote anything about the success of the racing? Their quest to dumb things down to the lowest common denominator has certainly been a stultifying success. What remains is a motorsport based reality show with the participants in giant rolling billboards. The lack of any discernible difference in the cars simply avoids any features that would distract the eye from the advertising. :shakehead

Looking forward to Watkins Glen. Throw one of those wings on my flucking amazing Escort and I can put that puppy on the front row! I've got 5 gears, they have 3. Plus I have Hankooks. (Aproved by none other than SOG). Those NASCAR hicks will be sniffing my ass-gas.

Well, Nascar is in charge on Grand-Am and look what they did to prototype racing. Imagine if Nascar sanctioned an open wheel series, the cars would make the IRL cars look great! :shakehead :(

I haven't watched that many Cup races of late, but what was the last really memorable race?

I think it was Ricky Craven in the Tide car leaning hard against someone I've forgotten across the finish line at I think Darlington about 5 years ago. I guess I don't remember.

This is probably a dumb question but as I don't follow Nascar......

Why would the manufacturers agree to this Car of Tomorrow stuff? I thought they were in racing to 'Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday'. Granted the current cars don't have much in common with the street versions but you can at least sort of tell what kind of car it is.

To one degree or another they are all questioning their investment in NASCAR. But the sticker on the car does have some marketing value if for no other reason that it is associated with someone's favorite driver.

And if you think about it a Lola powered by 2.65L turbo Cosworth V8 has as much to do with a Ford Fusion and the Car of Tomorrow but Ford sees value in badging it. And it will have little influence on this fans choice of cars. But shhh, let's not talk about that too loudly. :)

The threat has always been there.... I have no doubt if both series died, France will say he's saving the day with a dumbed down version of NAOW.....
