Was he screwing around weaving or was he already out of control when the video started?

Dude conveniently leaves out anything that went before. Here's what he had to say about it in the video description.

A true miracle I'm alive... Luckely I was wearing my riding gear, so my road rash was very minor. No broken bones, no concussion. I'm truly blessed to walk away. Please ride safe everyone, you don't walk away from an accident like this twice
EDIT: How did I get the wobbles? NO I DIDN'T WHEELIE. I was merging onto the freeway, checking traffic while I ventured over to the carpool lane. When I got next to the carpool lane, I check if it was clear again, then merged in while quickly accelerating in first gear. When I got up to enough speed to pass traffic (Traffic was doing 75-80 MPH) I changed into second gear (where the clip starts). First mistake I made was having my weight WAY too far back on the bike while accelerating, that mixed with the extremely bumpy freeway and the acceleration of the bike caused the front wheel to go extremely light. Thus causing the violent speed wobbles.

So he claims that traffic was moving at 75-80. If we buy that then at the beginning of the clip he's probably doing 82-85 when he decides to give it a little squirt to show that Civic what's what. A very rough estimate looking at the video timing is that he would have overtaken the 53 foot trailer on that semi in about a second. My rusty math says that's an overtaking speed of over 30mph.

That seems faster than it looks but consider that after the bike went down he was still overtaking the semi. It appears that the bike hit the rear wheels of the semi from behind and the rebound off that his what kicked him out the other side.

So just an educated guess, I'd say the truck was really going 65 to 70 and he was hitting 95 to 100 when things went wrong.

What kind of bike was it? That motorcycle had to either have something wrong with it or there was some kind of design flaw causing the oscillation . There was a Kawasaki model back in the eighties that had that problem. There was a police version of the bike that Kawasaki had to buy back and and destroy.

Heh, no kidding. I'm a long time Ford guy, but ol' Shel would never turn down the opportunity for a quick buck, either by cashing in on someone else's work, fabricating a story from whole cloth, or sticking someone else with the tab. Calling him ethically challenged would be an insult to Colin Chapman.

Don't get me wrong, he had his hand in some amazing products, but it was guys like Ken Miles and Eric Broadley who did the heavy lifting while he got the credit. Shelby was always about the marketing (and cashing checks).

Cleaning out the basement I was reminded of a co-worker at my very first "real" job. Whenever you were really doing well he would reference the "Shrike Commander." "You took that on like the Shrike Commander!" and the like. He explained that it was a reference to an amazing air show performance he had seen. Some guy doing aerobatics in a twin-engined, piston-powered business passenger aircraft. Cool. But it's not like I could Google it back in the olden days.

So today I Duck Duck Go'd it. Turns that not only did this guy, Bob Hoover, do the aerobatics in a twin engine passenger plane, he also did them single engine and dead stick. He had an amazing life story and is widely regarded to be one of America's best test pilots.

Funny you mention O'Hare. When I watch those crosswind landings I'm always having flashbacks to white knuckling a landing at O'Hare. I was at the back of one of those long DC-9s and as we approached. We hit a crosswind and suddenly I felt like I was looking straight down the runway. Biggest jerk I ever felt as it touched down and straightened out. Applause from the passengers.

It's cool that even though he had some A380's earlier in the day he still acknowledged the 747 as the "Queen of the Skies". Still a beautiful plane.

Wasn't coming from Denver, was it?

I landed on one set of wheels (rt side), bounced over onto the other 2 (lft and front), then slammed back down on the rt side. Then pilot had to steer the plane to go straight down the runway, because we were not.

Co-pilot suggested applause for the pilot.

Brother of Ukraine

Love my children, dear, mom and tattoo,
I'm going to win our land to protect.
Don't cry for me, I'll die in the field,
All thanks for loving our Ukraine!
Let's go, brother, in this hard time,
Let the enemy know for Ukraine.
To God our soul is united,
For our land Sacred Ukraine

We are for the steppe, for the foxes and burn,
For the broad fallow deer, for the Black Sea,
For the Heavenly Hundred, for Taras brother,
For our freedom, we overcame kata!
Holy Vira is with us, God and truth are with us,
And we are against it, that the brother is against the brother.
And feel the same way with wartime,
Nothing can fool us! Glory to Ukraine!

Don't cry for me, I'll die in the field,
All thanks for loving our Ukraine!
Don't cry for me, I'll die in the field,
All thanks for my love Ukraine

New Periscope film up - Some interesting clips I've not seen before. I thought it was interesting to see them interviewing Ray Haroun and hear him talk about the future of engines being horizontally opposed.

Presented by the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., this film "Shape of the Future" follows the North American IndyCar Series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1966 during the prestigious Indy 500 race. First run in 1911, the Indy 500 is famous in the world of motorsports and is still run every year today, drawing some of the largest crowds seen in sports. Well reflected in this video, the 1966 Indy 500 was a particularly exciting race since it featured several legendary Formula 1 and IndyCar drivers such as James Clark, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, and Mario Andretti, and additionally a host of accidents and car troubles for the drivers. Occurring on the first lap is a large accident involving 11 of the 33 cars on the field. Then again upon reset, another accident occurred involving one car in the first turn. Throughout the race there will amount to enough difficulties that only 7 cars will finish—the lowest number of cars to finish ever in an Indy 500.

Sorry, gotta geek out here.

Background:
RF energy is not "radioactive" - it is NOT ionizing energy. It doesn't tear apart your DNA. Gamma,Alpha, and Beta radiation does that, which has NOTHING to do with a microwave. That's for nuclear stuff and comic book heros/villians.

A microwave works due to heating water molecules in your foodstuff. (This is why your fine china plates get really hot in the microwave, because they have water in them. Don't do this. They will eventually explode.)
Normally RF energy passes right through things, unless the size of the "thing" gets resonated by the RF energy wavelength. (The video mentions the filaments of the light bulbs being the right wavelength to light up. Note he was using pretty low frequency at the time. This is important, at least to me. Low frequency = longer wavelengths, hi freq = short wavelength.)
All of this is a fancy way to say that microwave ovens make water molecules absorb the energy and vibrate like crazy. They oscillate back and forth with the frequency of the RF signal hitting them. What does a vibrating molecule produce (by definition)? Heat.

Still awake?
Microwave ovens run at "about" 2.1 GHz, which happens to be close in frequency to your Wi-Fi lower band. AHHHH! We're all cooking ourselves!! We're made of water, coffee and beer!

Nope.

It turns out that water molecules are VERY good RF absorbers at 21.1 GHz, not vey good at 2.1 GHz.
Somebody made a factor of 10 error with their slide rule back in 1946 or so. BUT, it was easier to crank up the power of a 2.1 GHz signal than it was to make a magnetron at 21+ GHz. So, microwave ovens are very inefficient at heating water molecules, but it's kinda easy to make a small RF wave into a BIG RF wave at 2.1 GHz. Guess what the Allies had a HUGE surplus of, just sitting around, waiting to be put into proximity fuses, radar stations, etc.? They had tons of 2.1 GHz magnetrons that worked "good enough" a heating water if you upped the wattage 1000x stronger than your home Wi-Fi that hadn't been invented yet.

Microwave ovens run at 2.1 GHz because someone made a math error.

Note: if you used an oven at 21 GHz, it wouldn't work very well, since it would just boil the water off the outside of the food, and not penetrate deep enough to cook your steak on the inside. Everyone cooks steaks in the microwave, right? :gomer:

All of this information came from a professor that did research after the war for Litton, and I've never heard it confirmed, but the absorption bands of RF energy are pretty well studied. Remember, absorbed means it keeps the energy (as heat).

I'd love for this to be proven an urban legend, but it passes the smell test

from the website https://www.rfcafe.com/references/electrical/atm-absorption.htm , but do any Google search on "atmospheric absorption of Radio waves vs. frequency" and you will find similar.

Also note: there are rumors that modern fighter jets communicate within their sortie at 60 GHz, so they cannot be overheard at any significant distance.
