Regular Car Reviews. Apologies to Nissan Altima owners.

That's funny. I always think of Hyundais in that sense, but Nissan is the Hyundai of Japanese cars. Whenever I look at them at the auto show I'm amazed at the difference in the quality of their switch gear and finish compared to other Japanese brands. A small sample, but consistent.
Are we offending any Nissan fans here? If so, what do you see in them?

No longer a Nissan owner, and happy to see them get trashed. I had a Nissan Frontier that was comically bad. If I wrote a list of everything that went wrong with it you'd probably think I was lying.

Graham Hill was the best. One of my early racing heroes. At the Indy 500 Victory Banquet (probably after his win in 1966), “In conclusion I have just heard of a new male birth control pill. You put it in your shoe and it makes you limp.” He then turned and limped off the stage. My dad was howling in laughter. I wasn't quite sure of what he meant. But I didn't forget it.

Ok that was bloody awesome!
The one thing I thought funny, from a computer geek side.... was that the software looked like it was old windows 95 based. And then you think, yeah, no one would update software on an older engine that was probably one year only, and since the restorer is a son of an Ilmor boss then it might be right to assume that the laptop and software are original as well, kept by Ilmor engineering.
Also they put a pop-off valve on it. So its probably damn near if not 100% original stock, and probably the closest to original vintage (that hurt saying that :irked:) indycar around.
And it could have been its own thread. ;) Wonder if they'll get it out to a track and an old driver back to let it loose.

Racer ran a story earlier in the week. From memory it is the only car from the era with the original everything.
There's a market in keeping ancient laptops running to run historic race cars. If you ever see demonstrations at Goodwood or similar there's a variety of ancient computers that show up

I mean, that's cool and all but you can also see in there how AI is just enabling the theft of creativity on a mass scale. For every thing I see in there that is obviously lifted from other sources, I'm sure there are another dozen more where I'm just unfamiliar with the source.
"Everything is derivative of something," is the common excuse, but it has never been so easy to take the very best creative work and change it ever so slightly enough to claim it's something different.
This is very good…

So speaking of AI, I follow a Canadian folk musician by the name of Garnet Rogers.
Back in 1983(?) he was playing alongside his brother Stan Rogers, until Stan lost his life in the Air Canada 797 emergency landing and fire at Cinncinati that year. Garnet went out on his own a few years later and made his own career.
Now, someone has used AI to take one of Garnet's songs, made many years after Stan's death, and put AI Stan singing it. Being a Stan and Garnet fan, I can say it sounds very accurate.
Garnet is quite upset about it. He posted on the youtube thread saying to take it down, and the OP removed his comments.
And I guess its a meta example of where AI is going to take us.

Wait. So the guy removed the artists comments and left the video up? Ugh. That's so gross.
This is another example of Google's disregard for artists rights. In any just system he could have that taken down within a day.

yep.
I mean Garnet has enough of a following that many people reported it and it has finally been removed by OP, not youtube but the OP. But when he posted it, he clearly stated it was AI, it was a 'cover' song, and gave proper original songwriter credit to Garnet.
So he really did tightrope the 'fair use' line...
Funny thing, the OP must be a fan of both singers, to know Stan and Garnet Rogers as a fan of them, (because lets be honest, you won't know of either of them unless you are a fan of folk music and Canadian folk music to boot) so to want to try this and then post it. And now get the utter scorn of Garnet and the fans after that .
