So I have to go to Oshkosh, WI on Sunday and spend a week there for work, and I pushed my flight back a day so I could go to the Brewers/Indians game. Is there anything else to do in Milwaukee? Where should I stay for the night? Any recommendations for where to go drinking in Oshkosh? I have to fly out of Appleton the afternoon after the game.

There's a bunch of hotels in Brookfield, maybe not even 5 minutes from Miller Park.

I stayed there many years ago the first time I went to RA. You might want to take along a good book. :p

I'm sure Oshkosh has nothing on the Parma Heights metroplex.

I suggest you pick yourself up a nice PETA t-shirt and a Chicago Bears cap before your trip. :thumbup:

IIRC the bar at the Holiday Inn had Leinenkugels or Leinenkugels. :laugh:

Of course, its not like in Parma I can't just drive 10 miles to a major downtown area like I can with Oshkosh. :saywhat:

I lived in Oshkosh for 8 years.
Mostly shot and beer places.
Although a place named Fratello's on the river has great food, runs a small brew pub (lots of GOOD suds) and has live music on the weekends.

Then again, a 20 minute drive north will get you to College Ave in Appleton which is very trendy and may appeal to you if you feel you MUST follow the crowd.

Go the the EAA Museum and quit acting like you're a sophisticated urbanite who can't bear the thought of being away from the bright lights of Cleveland.

Live a little.

Hotwire a 3* hotel in Brookfield. You'll end up at the Sheraton or the Doubletree - both nice. Drive down to Old World Third street in Milwaukee and walk around. Try not to let your citified ways intimidate the locals, either. They don't like that. :gomer:

Hey, I was in Peru, IN the past two weekends and that wasn't exactly sophisticated urban city, and I still had fun. Of course I was either racing or drinking at any time, but I only have to find a substitute for racing next week. ;)

When does Summerfest start up there? I went to that about 25 years ago and it was a blast. Spent a couple nights down there and then went drinking on the southside? I know there were a bunch of small corner bars wherever we went. Great town, just don't ask for a St. Louis brewed ale. :gomer:

I kept calling the locals Peruvians, they didn't really like that. I can only imagine what it would've been like had I stopped in nearby Mexico, IN. Also I passed the Dan Quayle museum. :saywhat:

EAA museum <---very cool place

Milwaukee's kind of a college "town" with Marquette, UWM...

...all in all not a bad part of the state

Summerfest doesn't start for another couple of weeks. It ends the weekend after July 4.


It is a great time! Lot's of great music.

It starts around July 4th.

You can always go on a brewery tour of miller or sprecher (much better). There are also a few good karting tracks if you feel like racing. And of course you could always go cow tipping and check the county fair circuit. there might be a good band playing close.

If you're a gambling man, get out to Potawotami casino. My friends and I like to shoot craps, and while we have several casino boats in the Chicago area, we like to go up to Milwaukee (one hour trip each way) because the land based atmosphere is much more inviting. ;)

Are there any paths in Oshkosh to go bike riding? Or, more importantly, anywhere to ride a bike? I don't want to be stuck on a stupid exercise bike in the hotel. :p

Or you could just bring a few traffic cones along with you and set up a little biking course in a corner of the nearest Piggly Wiggly parking lot.

But seriously, that's cool if you're thinking of bringing a bike with you - great way to explore a place.
