Searching for a significant other...

A few weeks ago when my daughter was over, she met this other girl who is the same age. Well I find out she has a divorced mother, who she was also visiting with her brother, who is probably 13 or so. So my daughter wanted to have her new friend over for dinner, we already had it started so I told her next time we would have them all over. Well this last weekend was "next time" and we had them over for dinner, I figured what the hell, I'm single and this girls mother is single, you know, maybe there wil be some connection or sumthin'. I wasn't really looking to start dating...That was good to, she did score big points by knowing the difference between all the racing series, but she blew them all away when I was trying to watch the F1 qualifying and she would not shut up:shakehead I really wasn't trying to be rude, but after about 30 minutes of her yammering before the quals, I had a pretty good idea of why she is divorced. Not that I am perfect. I must have turned the F1 quals up 4 times and she just kept on going, after a while it started to sound like Charlie Browns teacher Wa wa waa wa wa wa bwa bwa bwa. I finally turned the tube off, and stated that I needed to spend some quality time with my daughter. Well enough of that, needless to say I'm definately not ready to bend to make someone else happy, probably never will be again either. I do love the freedom that comes with being single again:thumbup: :D :thumbup:

Now don't think I'm some ahole, I'm sure she's a very nice woman, just not for me.

Don't worry, rocket. Similar thing happened to me recently......
I am a barrel racer and always thought I wanted a guy who something in the rodeo. I ended up dating one over the last month and a bit.

I was watching a race and he wanted to come over. I agreed. He got there. We talked and then the race began. He said, "I like racing too"...... Then starts yammering during the race. I literally have a scowl on my face as I am trying to stare at the TV and to any normal person it is obvious that I am trying to listen. Then I had no choice but to say, "shhhhh". Then he gets mad at me for telling him to shhhh. Then I explain I am trying to pay attention. He knows I am a race nut. Then he starts pumping off about how a driver kept on coming when it was obvious that another driver was "trying to get in". I had to explain that the driver wasn't not letting the guy but that the other driver was making an idiotic pass and cutting off the other guys line going into the turn. He said I was wrong. He starts yipping away while I am trying to watch and listen. You can imagine the rest.......

Needles to say, I don't care if the guy can ride a horse if he pulls that crap off on me......:mad:

I guess that makes me a bad girl too.........:shakehead

That's what we really should have done. You start off being nice because you assume that most NORMAL people will get the drift in a timely fashion. Then we wouldn't have to say any of that.
I guess these weren't normal people......At least to us die-hard racing fans.......Is there any other way to be?????? :confused:

It just sounded kind of funny when I thought about it, then i started thinking... hey maybe I am an ahole. Probably not really though, just a little picky, and far to honest with how I feel. That's a good thing though...no surprises.

Don't worry about being a bad girl RaceChic...many times the bad girls are the best ones;)

He's a 9-year-old registered QH. Finished barrel horse from Oklahoma. Looks like a TB. Rodeo people say, "Is that a TB?" like it's something dirty. He can run like stink though.....Bred to run. Jet Deck and Easy Jet on his papers. Lots of fun to ride.
Huge heart and almost tries too hard for his rider. Wonderful horse.:gomer:

I find that it is a matter of training. After lord knows how many years of being ignored until the commercials (unless NASCAR was on as well) or outright bored at live or tv events, my wife just "disappears" on Sunday afternoons.....

I also have difficulty finding women here who share similar interests. If they are into "racin'," to them, that means NASCAR, which I am not into. They usually like "raslin'," too, and are upset that the XFL didn't take off like they thought it should. :)

Then again...the girl I'd been seeing was always upset with me because I couldn't keep my mouth shut during college hoops.

My wife likes USAC midgets, but she absolutely disdains sprints & Silver Crown cars. Haven't figured that one out.

She does like the foreign pointy-car crap... just not enough to get out of bed at 7am to watch it. She likes it enough to ride with me to Michigan (which she said she liked) or Cleveland (which she also liked, she thinks Papis is cute) or to head off the USGP...

I think the scanner was what helped. When she's just sitting there watching cars, it gets boring. But when we can listen to the TV broadcast, or listen in on the drivers, it livens things up.

I was passing by the TV last week as my daughter, 11, was watching some show and noticed that a few of the characters were wearing racing crew shirts. I said, "what is this show about?" and she said, "CART racing". I was shocked. It was on Disney and I stopped to watch for a minute. They finally got to some of the racing portions of the show and it soon became appearant to me how much attention she had been paying to the racing on Sundays as the two race cars lined up at the christmas tree to make the 1/4 mile run.

Well, at least they didn't have fenders. Lord knows I have tried but, to get dragsters confused with Champ Cars....:eek: I fear I have failed.

Correction: At an open wheel race. I did get bored as stink at a NASCAB race. I couldn't get over the horrid groaning of the engines as they crawled by, kinda like a dying animal and how slow they were going at the Brickyard 400. And I quote: "Even the slugs (IRL) go around faster than these taxi cabs and they aren't even REAL open wheel race cars!!!":mad: :saywhat:

The pit stops were the final straw....... With all that race technology out there...........??????????:shakehead :confused: :shakehead

She'll get bored at just about anything over a midget feature without the scanner headset.

Can't say I don't blame her; I've got no idea how I survived without the headset either.

Trust me, I'm content with someone who's willing to drive 4 or 6 hours to get to a race with me.

If it takes a scanner to make the experience better for her, sign me up.

Well i don't have any problems with a significant other not liking racing .. but that prolly cause i don't have 1 :( (RaceChic pity we in different countries :P )

I did once have a girlfriend that wasn't too keen on racing but her dad and brother sure were!! ( in fact thats wat got me into CART)

I think I will chase Steven Piantieri of Irish Mike's Racing until he catches me. ;)

I had a cousin living with me last year and the ONLY way she would stop talking during motor racing or hockey was if I said "STOP TALKING!" Then we went to Planet Hollywood at the Niagara Falls Casino to watch the Gold Medal game between the USA and Canada and she discovered that SHE was the oddball as the place was packed with people cheering loudly for both teams for the whole game without a break. Sometimes you just have to be there.
