View Full Version : Socceroos thread
I'd thought I'd start a thread for the 2006 World Cup winners. :gomer:
First game: 3-1 win over Japan. :D
Next game : Brazil.
Slack arse Bazilians defeat Croatia 1 - 0.
Not quite what Australia was looking for,but good enough.
Australia leads group F over Brazil courtesy of goals scored. :D
Next game :Australia v Brazil. The big test.
Roos box with their feet. Guess it makes sense they'd play soccer, too.
Pretty chippy for a bunch that hasn't sniffed the World Cup in 30+ years, mate. :gomer: ;) :p

I hope your roos ate their vegemite. They're gonna need it today.

Shouldn't you give up on the soccer and start following golf emjaya?
Kiwi last year, Aussie this. Do you think that the US public will lose interest in the US Open like they have the Indy 500. :)
If you must follow soccer, Oi! Oi! Oi! ;)
Rusty.

"Sigh" I'm trying to block those out. :shakehead
However most of the people I spoke to today were happy with the game.Ok, so we didn't win and had two goals scored against us,but it wasn't the thrashing that some were expecting. The Brazilians had to work hard for their win.
The next time we'll meet them will be in the final,if they make it that far. :D
Next game : Croatia.
Australia only has to have a goal-less draw to get to the 16, that is unless Japan defeats Brazil by 3 goals,if that happens then we'd need to have won.
I need to sleep, the two hours that I had last night just wasn't enough. :gomer:

I used to play golf with cane toads when I was a kid, but they arrest you for cruelty to animals if you do that now.

As long as Monty and his fellow Euros don't win it, it's all good. :gomer: :)

And so ends the 2006 World cup for Australia.
A penalty in the last minute of stoppage time is certainly a heartbreaker, but the Socceroos can be happy of their efforts in the match.Italy looked the better attacking team, but could not find the back of the net.Australia looked a little flat in attack, perhaps missing Harry.
In four games the Socceroos have beaten the Aisan Champions and held the World Champions scoreless for the first half of a match, all in their first campaign in 32 years. Not too bad an effort.
If Soccer Australia can built on this, with the wave of publicity currently sweeping the country, all looks good for the future.

Rats. The very day our local newspaper has an editorial on how we should stop bagging Aussies and actually congratulate them on their achievements and we are given this ammo (World Cup defeat) to work with. :)
Having just watched the sports news all I can say is "you were robbed." :shakehead
Spot ya diggers........
Rusty.
Hey emj, did ya catch up with the Cane Toads video? ;) Hope you didn't notice the other links. ;)
Yes, I did watch it. No, I didn't look. Thanks for that. :)
