In the third session the WR Peugeot guys suck it up and actually lap faster than another LMP2 car and some miscellaneous GT backmarkers.

Hey, why don't you ask AJ about his Le Mans win? He'll tell you something like this, that S.O.B Dan Gurney went to sleep in the middle of the night and they couldn't find him, so I had to do a tripple stint. :laugh:
I don't care what you say about AJ Foyt, but he won Le Mans and there is no one that can take that away from him! :thumbup: :cool:

They don't need to be fast, they will make the podium by cruising around and not hitting anything.
The rest of the LMP2 class will break or otherwise dnf. :shakehead

Nice "story", but AJ had won in sports cars long before he got to Le Mans, I believe it was Nassau in '63.

Foyt also had a few good races in IMSA during the 80s driving a 962. Of course, I doubt that he had anything to do with preparation and set-up then. But that is beside the point. The Futility Watch is all about how Foyt Racing has been stinking bad for the last decade.
WR-Peugeot is the ACO's version of Foyt Racing -- an organization clearly favored by the organizers that can't produce on the track.

That could have been a lot worse than it was.
Who was it that launched a little bit, dug the nose in a trap and flipped over at Laguna Seca a few years ago? Boesel comes to mind, but I'm probably wrong about that.

Hey, this is the team that has the out right speed record at Le Mans before they added the mickey mouse chicanes. :p
Gerard Welter is well versed in endurance circuits, especially the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1993, Welter Racing claimed the Le Mans C3 class victory with its L4 T Peugeot 1905 cm3 powerplant entry that was driven by Patrick Gonin, Alain Lamouille and Bernard Santal. Aside from the 1993 class win, Welter Racing's career at La Sarthe also includes four second-place finishes and one third-place run.
The notable record speed occurred in 1988 under the auspices of "Project 400." With that project, Welter set out to build the first car to do 400 kph (248.54 mph) during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That year, Welter's low-drag designed WM Peugeot P88, driven by Roger Dorchy, with special narrow tires supplied by Michelin to help assist in the drag reduction, eclipsed 251 mph on the famed Mulsanne Straight. The record speed was later protected with the addition of chicanes, which were built into the straight in 1990.

A truely futile effort completely in the tradition of Foyt Racing. Now if they had only managed to burn to the ground on top of the ACO/24 Heures du Mans logo the weekend would have been perfect.

At the end of the day, any team that builds & develops their own car instead of doing the easy thing like buying a Lola or a Courage gets my respect no matter what they accomplish. Unfortunately, they can't generate a decent sponsor and have to rely on paying drivers. If they were able to get some money, maybe they could hire good Le Mans specialist like Rene de Fournoux or Xavier Pompidou and might actually get a result. Remember they almost won the LMP2 class twice in early 2000's with de Fournoux driving.
