View Full Version : What's so stealthy about that?
An F-117 Stealth Fighter flew low over the house this afternoon - very noisey and I could see it plain as day. :p
Pretty cool, though.

The "stealth" refers to virtually no radar profile due to all those angles and lack of radar friendly straight line surfaces. It also is infrared stealthy because engine exhaust is dispersed and vented at an upward angle. It operates almost exclusively at night and at fairly high altitude so you wouldn't be able to eyeball it or hear it anyway. Precision guided weapons allows it to launch attacks from a distance so by the time the bombs hit, its gone.
And they are very cool looking.
Have you ever seen a B-2 stealth flying? Now that is REALLY cool.

A few years ago at RA they had a Stealth fly over. I cant remember what kind it was but there was the eerie feeling over the crowd as it flew by. The fueler / security planes flew over first and then the stealth after. It was a huge contrast in noise between the two types. The fuelers loud as heck; the stealth, not a sound until it was just overhead.
