How pathetic is this....
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Gov. Kathleen Blanco has called the presidents of the Rose Bowl Presened by Citi and the FedEx Orange Bowl to lobby LSU for a high Bowl Championship Series berth.
"Anyone who follows college football knows this has been a successful year for LSU and we Tiger fans are some of the most passionate fans in college sports," she said Thursday. "Our team deserves a BCS berth."
"I am reminding representatives of these bowls of the excitement our state shares for this team and everything we offer as LSU fans. An invitation to any of these bowls would be a major win for both LSU and the bowls themselves," she said.
At No. 5 in the BCS and Associated Press standings, the Tigers (10-2) are considered to have a good chance to be invited to the Rose Bowl.
While officials have denied media reports that LSU will be invited to the Rose Bowl, The Shreveport Times reported the school had already sold more than 38,000 pre-sale orders for tickets -- at $135 per ticket -- as of Thursday night.
Blanco, whose husband has coached college and high school football, spoke with Rose Bowl president and CEO Paul Holman about the Tigers' successful season and enthusiasm about the bowl in Pasadena.
Last month, Blanco hosted Holman and Tournament of Roses Committee members at the Governor's Mansion during the group's visit to Louisiana.
She also spoke with Orange Bowl president Eric Poms about the possibility of the Tigers heading to Miami.
Both bowls are expected to make their announcements Sunday.
A BCS berth for LSU depends on the outcome of two conference championships Saturday: The Southeastern Conference title game between Arkansas and No. 4 Florida and Arkansas and the Pac-10 title game between No. 2 USC (10-1) and heavy underdog UCLA.

1. Florida beat nine teams that are projected to play in bowl games. Michigan beat six.
2. Michigan beat five teams that finished the season with losing records. Florida beat two teams with sub-.500 records.
3. Florida's 12 Division I-A opponents had a combined record of 89-57. Michigan's 12 opponents had a combined record of 84-61.
4. Michigan's best win is considered a 27-13 victory over Wisconsin on Sept. 23. The Badgers are 11-1 and have climbed to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 poll, despite having played only one ranked opponent -- the Wolverines -- the entire season.
5. The 12 teams Florida defeated finished the season with 11 combined wins against opponents which were ranked in the AP Top 25 poll at the time the game was played. The opponents Michigan defeated claim just three wins against ranked teams (Notre Dame beat Penn State. Indiana beat Iowa. Vanderbilt beat Georgia. The Nittany Lions, Hawkeyes and Bulldogs, it should be noted, haven't been ranked in seven weeks).
6. The Gators went 3-1 against ranked opponents, beating then-No. 13 Tennessee, No. 9 LSU and No. 8 Arkansas and losing at No. 11 Auburn. The Wolverines went 1-1 against ranked opponents, beating a highly overrated No. 2 Notre Dame team (that lost to Michigan and USC by a combined total of 46 points) and losing at No. 1 Ohio State 42-39 on Nov. 18.
7. The Gators' average margin of victory against Division I-A teams was 13.5 points. They won seven games by 14 points or fewer, six by less than 10. The Wolverines' average margin of victory was 17.3 points. They won six games by 14 points or fewer, two by less than 10.
8. The Gators played Western Carolina, a Division I-AA team, and won by 62 points. The Wolverines played Ball State, which should be a I-AA team, and won by eight.
9. Since the Wolverines last played and lost at Ohio State, the Gators won at Florida State (The Seminoles are 6-6, but rivalry games are tough to win. Just ask USC coach Pete Carroll) and then beat the No. 8 Razorbacks, who defeated then-No. 2 Auburn and No. 13 Tennessee by 17 points each.
10. Michigan didn't win the Big Ten; Florida won the SEC. Winning your conference should be a prerequisite for playing in the national championship.

Ank, just want to point out that the WV RU game was a little closer than you predicted. ;)
Great game. Well played. Too bad RU is headed to Houston in a game no one will see on TV
Next few days will also tell whether Shalala will screw the Big East again and bid up the price for Schiano to ridiculous heights. And we'll see just how much Schiano really loves his current job.
IMO if he goes RU football tanks. There is already uneasy support and outright hostility for the program within the state and university because the whole government is broke and he's the highest paid state employee. If he leaves, after they gave him everything he wanted, then the mood will say to leave professional football to the pros and landgrant institutions.

I have to say, there's some voters that need to be ashamed of themselves. Especially the clown that gave Florida a #1 vote. How does a team drop two spots in the rankings without playing anybody (and without any of the teams below them having a dominant victory).
While I understand the whole "We don't want to see a rematch" mentality, who the heck are they kidding? Watch a Rocky movie for crying out loud!
Michigan/Ohio State I was one of the rare events that lives up to the hype, with the outcome in question until the very end. I don't think anybody on either side of the rivalry walked away thinking anything other than, "Holy crap, that was awesome!"
The chance to do it again, in a neutral site with even more on the line would have been a game of epic proportions - bigger than anything we'll see The Powers That Be finally realize they need a playoff.
Instead, we'll see Ohio State beat the crap out of Florida, and USC get exposed again - leaving Ohio State and Michigan #1 and #2. Right back where they were the day after The Game.

That's one way to look at it. Another way is that the voters saved us from a game that the majority of the nation didn't want to see. Under the current system, UM had their chance... they lost and have to deal with it.
Michigan/Ohio State I was one of the rare events that lives up to the hype, with the outcome in question until the very end.
Isn't the consensus that once they took the lead, OSU had the game in hand?
The Powers That Be finally realize they need a playoff.
Amen to that.

That is why they play the games. What if Florida and USC win, then the Big 10 gets exposed. The only way to see if the Big 10 is as good as you think they are is for them to play the other conference winners. Key point being conference winners... of which UM is NOT.
Lastly, keep talking up OSU as that will only help Florida.
And uber-lastly, there is no way that UF's defense is giving up 500+ yards and 42 points. :p
And oh yeah, uber-uber-lastly, if Zook can play OSU tough... :gomer:

Sad to see Leonard go, but they are otherwise young and should be better next year... assuming Schiano stays.
Somehow I think he will. He could go to Miami and wait to get fired in 3-7 years. Or he could stay at RU as long as he wants Paternoesque-like and rule the state.
RU hung with them, but don't act like slaton's injured wrist putting balls on the ground and pat white's absence didn't help y'all immensely.

Well I guess maybe scUM shouldn't have lost on November 18th. Then there would be nothing for Ann Arbor fans to be pissy about.
The only team that has a right to complain is Ohio State. They are the only team that won every game in a big conference, and they are the only team that controls their own destiny.
If UF or UM complain, or if their fans complain they are idiots. If you want to control your destiny win out and assure where you are going. Don't lose and quit bitching are the keys to winning the National Championship.

Urban did not go out and try to get votes like LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLoyd claims. Urban said there is something wrong with the system, and he was right. No matter if UF got the game they wanted or not. Urban didn't actively recruit pollsters, the media took one quote and used it all week because plain and simply they knew no one would want to see a rematch(except michigan).
Also, why would a coach not try to go out and gain votes? What high horse is LLLoyd on that he can't argue his points in front of the media? Is that the same high horse that got him disinvited from the Michigan high school coaches meeting? The very same meeting that Jim Tressel was invited to and attended, across enemy lines?

Injuries have no doubt hurt them, but this is a very undisciplined, un-Giant-like team.
The fact is this team, and Strahan especially, has always talked like champions but never been champions and the fans don't like it. Nine penalties against the Boys including I think 4 false starts (at home!) and three personal fouls hurt them more than them more than injuries. Burress stupidly calling a timeout on their final drive left a ton of time for the Boys to kick a FG. His excuse? "I saw the coach flapping his arms on the sideline and thought that's what he wanted." Dumbass. Coach is always flapping his arms like an idiot.
Giants won a superbowl in 1990 with Jeff frickin Hostetler at QB after Simms broke his foot in week 10. They did it with smart solid play and effort. That's what Giant fans expect going back to the 50s (and rarely got for about 17 years in the 70s and 80s:shakehead ). Its a Mara thing about the athletes being sportsmen and gentlemen needed to give respect to the fans and sport and facing their responsibiolities to the team, fans and community. Its why Giant fans are not Jet fans ;)
Giant fans wouldn't mind losing four games and a ton of injuries if they were seeing effort and smarts instead of cliched talk and blaming the press for their problems. Shut your mouth, quit the jump shot stuff, and play the game right.
The team is out of control and control freak, disciplinarian Coughlin is looking to be a sham. He's dead coach walking.
Word is Weis is top of the list. I doubt they will settle for less. Perfect fit. Jersey guy. Was coaching Franklin HS when Parcell gave him a job. Perhaps can save Mannings career.
Burress is gone too. Shockey needs to gain a few IQ points and drop a lot fewer balls or he's gone too.
anyone but jabba the weis.
and idiot players are the GM's fault, not the coach's. coughlin's solid, and he has 20 years of history to prove it. he just has to deal with dumbasses like burress & shockey.

Accorsi is no George Young. Young would never have tolerated some of these yahoos. But Accorsi hasn't done too badly. He's brought in a number of solid, smart, reliable players, just not reliably. And he brought in Coughlin, though he was Mara's pick too.
Coughlin is a solid guy and I generally have respect for him, but he has allowed Burress and others do all sorts of stupid stuff on game day and during the week and he has done nothing about it. Last year he would bench players for some of the crap we're seeing but this year he's taken a "softer" approach ever since training camp. To be fair, benching players didn't really work either. It did for a time, but it didn't make many of them less stupid.
In any event, he's lost the team and that is a fatal mistake for any coach.

unlike you, I don't swap allegiance every 3 years with the new top 5. :gomer:
In any event, he's lost the team and that is a fatal mistake for any coach.
true on all counts.

and i've told you i still cheer for fsu. look up the word 'soft spot' on this website. i'm not totally behind my school, and thats why I have trouble alot.
I also was going to go to Ohio State, and due to family issues that I will not name, I did not have a chance to go there, much to my dismay(although grad school may be in the cards, who knows). I've had a quit a ride in college with my father getting sick and other personal family issues. Its the reason I knew I was either going to UF for family or back to Ohio and to OSU.
I did dislike UF, and still hate the fans, but i have to cheer them on. When they play FSU i do feel weird and don't like it. But one things that is clear is that I do love Ohio and OSU. I would love to see FSU do well, but it would not be like my love for OSU. When i'm in Glendale, AZ wearing my OSU stuff, I'll let you know how I feel then.

If it weren't for Tressel giving him a swift kick in the ass and making him realize his talent only went so far when his attitude hurt him, made his career.
He and JT might not have got along at first, but he owes everything of his maturity to OSU, and I'm happy to see what he has become so far. Hopefully he doesn't disappoint later, and in the NFL and in life.

:shakehead I do not know where you live and I'm not condoning this by any means but, I can see how this happens. When I roll around So-Cal in my Bruin gear I get loud mouthed SC fans all up in my face all the time talking trash like they were recruited by Pete Carroll. Most of the time this happens in the fall because most of these so called "die hard" SC fans trade in their SC football gear for Bruin basketball blue after their Trojans lose whatever Bowl game they happen to go to. Not saying this guy was doing that and even if he was it does not make it right. In my experience though the loudest mouths usually have a SC hat on their heads.

I doubt these people were even Alums but I strongly disagree with people thinking that all the A-holes are SC fans. The past few years of SC press have made some UCLA fans nasty.

I cannot find the link to this story as it came out in Sunday's Columbus Dispatch.
But here is a quick blurp that the Dispatch was doing on cab driver stories in CMH.
The greatest part is the person who refers to himself as bucknutty, the same person that was beat up in the story below, is also a poster on www.buckeyeplanet.com
I thought everyone but tOSU were classy fans?
Bandit had been driving his cab all evening when he answered his cell phone just before midnight on a Friday three months ago.
A group of half-drunk regulars ? professional men he often drives to Ohio Stadium on football-game days ? was on the line.
"Hypothetical question," one said: "If we ever wanted to go on a long road trip, would you do it? "
Bandit knew that Ohio State was playing the University of Iowa the next afternoon.
"You want to go to Iowa? " he asked. "I?ll be there in 40 minutes."
He took the three Buckeyes fans 10 hours to Iowa City, much of it past dark cornfields, before reaching their friend?s house for a quick pre-game nap.
The fare on the meter for the one-way trip: $947.20.
Later, as Bandit pulled up near Kinnick Stadium with the trio, some students harassed him for giving the scarlet-clad fans a ride. Then they noticed the license plate ? and stared in shock.
Two of the Ohioans bought scalped tickets. Bandit and the third guy, who wears red spandex and calls himself "Bucknutty," watched the game at a bar.
Bucknutty was punched by a woman and hit in the face with a full bottle of beer by another Hawkeyes fan.
"It was definitely a hostile environment," Bandit said. "I ended up being more of a bodyguard for him than a cabdriver."
The group slept at the friend?s house and headed for home on Sunday.
Bandit ignored the meter. He was paid $400, plus gas and food, for the round trip.
"I just like having fun," he said. "It?s a really entertaining job for me."

Is there anything more depressing than looking up at the television and realizing that you forgot to bet against Oregon in it's bowl game? Just painful. Here is the plan for next year. Start an online betting account. Conservatively build up a nest egg. And then put the entire account balance on Oregon's bowl opponent to cover.
Nice helmets, too. At least they haven’t screwed up the cheerleaders uniforms yet.
