just another high-speed taxi test today. :\
How fast are they getting it up to on the ground?
high speed taxi tests are usually around 130 knots

Not pretty, but still kinda cool. Raptor pwns it already, the Hornet/Super Hornet is still purtier (esp the Navy blue ones). All is good.

“The Lightning II performed beautifully,” said F-35 Chief Pilot Jon Beesley following the flight. “What a great start for the flight-test program, and a testimony to the people who have worked so hard to make this happen.”

*edit: I hope the F-22 isn't as vulnerable to aging cargo planes flown by Wookies named Chewy.

I disagree, I'm going with the B-52. When all are retired in 2050, some airframes will have over 90 years in service
Agree - my vote as well.

My vote for the most embarrassing new generation aircraft Fubar: Crossing the international dateline in the Pacific with a group of F22’s and all your Nav/Com equipment shuts down and can’t be rebooted - leading to your flight to Japan having to be turned around back to Hawaii…. Whoa!
That thumping sound you hear is the sound of someone’s a$$ being kicked deep down in some software programming center…
Perhaps the F-35 crowd have taken note and checked THEIR code… :)

"I must've put a decimal point in the wrong place or something. Dammit, I always do that. I always mess up some mundane detail."

Navigation Software Programing is tricky stuff.
I have not tried this but I heard MS Flight simulator will Crash to Desktop if you fly over one of the Polls

FS 2002 will, but 2004 will make it if you're flying with autopilot off, or by IFR

A-10 to be phased out. Replaced with F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
The venerable A-10 tank killer aircraft is taking a hit of its own as part of the Defense Department’s decision to eliminate six of the service’s tactical air squadrons and one training squadron.
Air Force leaders plan to phase out the A-10 and allow the F-35 Lightning II to take its mission sets once it enters the Air Force fleet in numbers.

Just give 'em back to the ANG units. They'll take good care of the 'hogs.
Or maybe sell some to India. That'll give the Pakistanis and the Chinese fits.

Yeah, like it was going to be replaced by the F16 before that. In order to eliminate it they'll have to hope that we stay out of trouble for long enough that they can retire it before the F35 is revealed as a poor platform for CAS.

How many times has the A10 been killed off -- only to have it come back?
Great plane that many pilots and dudes on the ground thank for their lives. Too smart an idea for its own good I guess.

They'll have to all be chopped up in the desert before the next time we need boots on the ground for it to stay dead.
Not sexy enough for the Air Force Generals who have never taken CAS as seriously as they should.
The F-35B short takeoff/vertical landing variant completed ship suitability testing aboard the USS WASP (LHD-1) off the coast of Virginia in October 2011. Combined, F-35B test aircraft BF-2 and BF-4 accomplished 72 short takeoffs and 72 vertical landings during the three-week testing period.
