412 knots? Well, that settles it. I'm going to have to become a gazillionaire now :gomer:
Nice engine placement. :gomer: Will it be as successful as this awesome plane:

412 knots? Must be all that stuff they learned from making crapwagon motors. Hell the Piaggio P180 is a tick slower than that and it is a turboprop. Cooler looking too.

The Spectrum 33 cruises at 415 knots.

Much the same idea. Nine passengers, carbon fiber construction, relatively low $3.65 million price.
Unfortunately it crashed on take off yesterday, killing both pilots. Glenn Maben, the director of flight operations for Spectrum Aeronautical, and Nathan Forrest, vice director.

Eh, engine placement sure looks funny.
The article doesn't say, is Honda making their own jet engines for this?

Kinda, it is a collaboration between GE and Honda.

Seats 1 crew, 7 pax. (2/6 if needed)
Only problem I see is with the range. 1100NM. Enough to go from Ohio-Florida non-stop, but not enough for NY-Cali, and certainly not even close to NYC-London.
For 4 million, I can think of a bunch of older planes I'd rather have that are much cooler. In fact some older Learjets have longer ranges and are less than or equal to their price. They need to work on that range or work on that price. If they can keep it at that price and bump it up to 2500-3000NM then you may have something.
Fhonda
The Spectrum 33 goes futher, 2,000-nm VFR range, and is cheaper, and also seats more, has a wider fueslage and is only $.71 to run per Nautical Mile.

The VFW-614 was a twin-engined jetliner produced in small quantities by Fokker VFW in the early to mid 1970's. Intended originally as a DC3 replacement, the M45H-01 engines were mounted on pylons above, rather than below, the wing.
I think because it looks decrepit, thats why we'd automatically think its russian ;)
Needs more airbox. :gomer:

Its a WAG, but I think it means reduced foreign object damage to the engines since they are on top of the wing.

Those mirrors will never work.

Nope. German.
...huck fonda..... :gomer:
what's the problem with the engine mounts?
physically it's not much different than engines mounted beneath wings, only with a craft that small there's not enough room beneath the wing...

Not the bang for the buck I was hoping they could do. I heard toyota is developing one too. Maybe they can do it cheaper.

Well they figured out why it crashed.
The plane's aileron linkage had been disconnected and reassembled during a maintenance check. When it was reinstalled the connections were reversed. The pilots apparently did not check the ailerons during their preflight. "They were looking at a number of things on the aircraft that day. Sadly we all missed this." Upon take off the aircraft immediately rolled right and crashed.
The aircraft was the first and only one of its type.
