The NFL has done a much better job on the PR front and most people think this is an isolated incident.

People didn't look back at the Whizzinator incident and realize, hey, if someone in the NFL has one of these, this must mean they can cheat on these tests. People don't look at the Carolina 6 and wonder, how did they not get caught? There must be something wrong. How many more people are also using steroids/HGH and cheating on the drug tests?

I don't quite get why the athletes and unions don't want the testing. If you're clean, you would want this. You don't want others to use it and get an edge on you. You don't want to resort to it to keep up. The union should be trying to protect the players, and there are known health risks to using these things. By having proper enforcement and testing, they are saving lives and protecting players.

Lay out a deadline and do the proper testing. They need heavy penalties that lead to a lifetime ban. Tell the players we aren't going to force you to compete against players taking performance enhancing drugs. We want you to be and play cleanly and fairly.

Yup. That and the NFL and the NFLPA have a better relationship than MLB and the MLBPA. There's also the fact that MLB used the enhanced performances by the likes of Sosa, Big Mac, Bonds, etc. to hype MLB and rebuild it's popularity post-1994. Plus, baseball has always been more about stats and individual performances than football. Taking all of this into consideration, and MLB just looks and smells bad.
