Peugeot Displays Le Mans Contender in Paris
Written by: Autocar staff
Paris, France – 9/29/2006
2006 has been the year of the competition diesels. First Audi won Le Mans with its V10 TDI, then JCB raised the diesel world land speed record by 115mph.
Now Peugeot is aiming for Le Mans glory with this swooping-bodied racer, the 908 V12 TDi.

Hmmm...French diesel. Nah, it'll never win LeMans.
Too bad we'll never see it over here.
Take the wheels off and put on sponsons and that thing looks ready for a Gold Cup race. I really to hate the single-seater with fenders look of the current cars and this one looks like a power boat...

Agreed. I hate to say it, but that car doesn't look the least bit like a sports car. It looks like an F1 car with a canopy and wheel spats.
Now, this is a propper prototype race car! I hope Audi go full blown to try and beat them. It would be nice if a Japanese manufacture went all out as well.

The more I look at it, the more I'm convinced it isn't ACO legal. 'Course, it's French, so I guess it's always ACO legal. :saywhat:

How dare you question the integrity of the ACO! Why, they're entirely fair and balanced. Just ask Welter Racing. :gomer:

Wouldn't they have to have integrity for me to question it? :o

The American flag is beneath the Mexican flag?
http://www.suvcw.org/flag.htm
Section 7 (c) No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America, except during church services conducted by naval chaplains at sea, when the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for the personnel of the Navy. No person shall display the flag of the United Nations or any other national or international flag equal, above, or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of, the flag of the United States at any place within the United States or any Territory or possession thereof: Provided, That nothing in this section shall make unlawful the continuance of the practice heretofore followed of displaying the flag of the United Nations in a position of superior prominence or honor, and other national flags in positions of equal prominence or honor, with that of the flag of the United States at the headquarters of the United Nations.

Will the road course inside dinky little Iowa Speedway do?

I can see it now: the Peugeot racing into the sunset, cornshucks wafting into the evening air as it passes and getting caught in the evening thermals...

you're quoting the united states flag code. i'm thinking that it has a lot to do with the car not being from the U.S, ownership not being from the U.S, and the drivers not being from the U.S.
I think the only reason the flag is there at all is because it's a U.S. based series.
I've gotta think that us yankee imperialists and our laws probably don't extend to other countries... they pop their zits at us, you know.
i'd be more concerned with the flag on the starbord side of the car not facing in the opposite direction, but that's just me being anal.

Multimatic, Prodrive, Zytek, Creation & Konrad (for all 37 seconds he was there) have all run w/o US flags this year. I suspect it's for sponsor appeasement purposes, or even an acknowledgement that, while perhaps a superstar in Mexico, it's the USA that's made his career.
I know everyone has their own tastes, but I think there is a big difference between the photo above and this:

Supposedly this car will be testing at Sebring the week after the race. Hopefully it'll be on the grounds to have a look but I won't hold my breath.
