I found this while doing a search. Hard to believe it's almost been 7 years. Reading the articles and looking at the pictures made it feel like it happened today. Maybe this is why I don't do anything on Halloween anymore.

I don't know if it'd be on youtube, but there was a video that came out after Greg died that was played on TSN. It was a half hour tribute show.

this is the link. TSN has left this on their servers - its old and terrible quality.

I've bugged TSN for years to re-encode this. No dice. :irked:

Youtube has a few Moore vids, unfortunately a large percent of them is the crash which took his life.

But you can also find these:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=B_NGAYee4yo - Greg's first win at MKE.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=EL_QCG2vU4Q - Greg's 2nd win, a week later at Detroit (I was there and lost my voice that day :) )

He was great.

He was good (no disrespect intended), but was on the path to greatness. I often wonder where his career might have taken him had his life not been taken on that terrible day.

Helio takes the seat that was Greg's and RP goes circle track racing a season later. Would it have been Greg that PT passed in the '02 Indy 500?

I believe that Greg would have been driving for a top-of-the-grid F1 team before he would have gone twearling.

RIP, Greg Moore

IMHO Greg's passing really set the series back. It was a tragic loss for everyone involved. Drivers, fans, owners, series officials. I know going to Long beach in 2000 just did not feel right and I could not even think about going back to Fontana in 2000. Out of everything that CART/CHAMP CAR has lost losing Greg has hurt the most.

I don't think he would've had much choice like Helio and de Ferran. Perhaps it would've been him winning those CART titles first though.

There was a lot of promise and it's sad we never go to see it. :(

You're probably right, but given how flatout fast he was on ovals, that might not have been such a bad move. He would have one a few 500s. I hate saying that though.

I think his loss was a huge hurt to CART. Moore was hugely popular with the Canadian fans and fans in general. His savage crash surely turned off more than a few fans and combined with the fans killed at MIS earlier (and I guess add Charlotte) probably took away the last of the OW oval fans that were putting up with the split.

His death also coincided with the departure of Mercedes, which marked the beginning of the manufacturers' departure so there was additional reason to expect the series to decline.

Hard to believe it's going to be 7 years tomorrow. I'll never forget that drive home. You know what I'm talking about Tim...

Damn, I can't believe its been 7 years. I remember the day after, reading the internet posts from people who said they had no sympathy for Greg dying since he drove a tobacco sponsored car.

Anyone got that pic of him flipping off Montoya? I lost it in an HD crash a year or so ago. :( I'll always remember him saving the car coming off T2 @ MIS during the US 500. One of the most amazing saves I've ever seen.

Losing him still hurts to this day.

Much remembered yesterday I told someone at work I will have nothing to do with Halloween because of something that happened 7 years ago. If I never go to Fontana again then that's fine too and I like Nascar. I worked there for a well known touring act in 2002 but it still doesn't make that place better for me. When I was leaving I looked out at that spot and it was dark...it was very eerie. I flew over the speedway in Sept and immediately started looking at the spot. I totally forgot the Nascar race was on until I saw all the trailers.

I remember the day so vividly. After the crash happened, I was devastated. I turned the TV off and went outside with my then two year old son. It was an extremely warm day for the end of October, we played outside all day. At one point my wife came outside and asked why I wasn't watching the race. I told her something really bad happened and I didn't want to talk about it. After taking the boy trick-or-treating and putting him to bed, I sat in front of the computer debating whether to go to cart.com. I knew what it was going to saying but I didn't want to believe it.

I never finished watching the race even though I had recorded it. I've seen Gordon Smiley and Senna's wrecks over and over again on video. To this day, I've never seen a replay of Greg's. I never want to.

One good thing came out of it. Every time I think of Greg or this day, I obviously recall the crash. But, I also think back of the day it was just me and Addison hanging out on a gorgeous day.

I woke up today and started thinking about. The weather here in LA is usually identical (clear skies, etc) to the way it was that day and that also reminds me. It's the same today.

Using brakes on an OVAL?? What a concept!

(OT, I actually wish that I wasn't reminded of this every year. :( Just personal wussiness. Carry on.)

This month's RACER mentions that in '99 Dario, PT and Greg were bored and decided to have some fun. They went online and started a rumor that Greg was headed to NASCAR. The rumor caught on - both on and off line - and the three of them got into some trouble.

Does anyone remember this happening?

More importantly, does anyone remember when the idea of top open wheel drivers going to Nascar was a joke?:(

Oval racing is dead to me until they bring it back.
Just tear down the tracks and build Walmarts if they can't do it.

I remember the rumor, and I remember being in utter disbelief when I heard it...but I don't remember the story of Dario, PT, and Greg starting it...though that kind of thing was right up their alley....

 Dario Franchitti won the last Indy race at California Speedway in 2005. For a victory celebration, Andretti Green Racing drove their cars to the exit of Turn 2 and celebrated there. This was in honor of Greg because this was the crash site. Dario was also Greg's friend.
