I actually wanted to find out which races were closest to my house. I'm in Toronto, so obviously Toronto... :) but there are 3 others within a 1-day drive: Mt Tremblant, Cleveland, and Road America.

Oh yeah, in some cases I got the actual circuit (either because I knew it or looked it up) and the point is on it, in most others I was lazy and the point is just on the city/town/community. Or in the case of Road America, lake. :D

I've got all of this year's circuits placemarked on Google Earth, and have been contemplating upgrading to Google Earth Plus, which allows you to define a path.

Not that there aren't a zillion other things to do with Google Earth, but finding F1 and Champ Car circuits is one of the more interesting timekillers I've found.

My passtime too. It kinda sucks though when the resolution is too low to see any details on your favorite track. Does the paid version give better resolution in more locations?

Portland is really a great view, but Laguna Seca you can't even see.
How is Road America?

RA you are battling to see... Its prolly 5 or 10 metre in that area....

The upgrade doesn't give any better resolution for viewing, but it does give a few interesting features. Defining a path is one of the better ones in my opinion, but you can get better resolution for printing snapshots, you can import and export data to GPS devices, and you get faster (priority) access to the servers.

Road America is tough to spot. If you know where the track is in relation to the local roads and how it's oriented, you can pick it out, but I've been there numerous times and I had trouble pinpointing it.

The fun ones are the street circuits, which are harder to find, but the purpose-built facilities are pretty interesting too. I'm constantly finding buildings and surrounding stuff that I did not know existed.

Oh, and if you're having trouble seeing Laguna, that's probably a server issue. I've always gotten a pretty good view of that one:

Pretty neat, you can see the racing line on the Edmonton satellite shot.

It used to be that at Long Beach, you could actually see the cars out on the track, but the photos have since been updated and replaced with some images that were not taken during the race weekend.
