Who's the most blindingly stupid driver of all time? I know there is a great depth of choice here, but try to pick one and relate a story.

Who was the F3000 driver who threw away a win at Monoco by slowing down right before the finish line to wave to the crowd?
Other than that how about Foyt? Won a lot of races. Said a lot of stupid things.
Booby Unser? See recent interview over his resisting arrest charge.

Eye-Vee and Special Ed. Now there's a dumb-off could keep us all entertained for days. There's more stupid between these two than there is in inheritence money.:tony:

I don't know if it qualifies him as the stupidest driver, but Riccardo "the Rocket" Rossett plowing full throttle into the biggest crash in F1 history at the '97 Belgian GP was a "special" moment.

That was one of the funniest moments ever. I loved the interview, both Andrettis claimed the track was "blocked" but other cars had made it thru both before and after Mario punched the safety truck.
Scott Goodyear, hands down the dumbest move ever. :gomer:

Passing the pace car in '95 Indy to give checkers to Jacques. And not just passing it, but blowing by it.

Naw, give that to Jaime Skinner, Mike Skinner's son. He had opportunites to race in Busch and the Trucks as well. He wasn't maybe just using the junk, he was busted dealing it at one of Mike's houses!
http://www.jayski.com/past/2000/001030.htm
Just checked Mike's website and it looks like Jaime is back racing mini trucks in Florida and winning. Hopefully he's cleaned his act up. On second thought Hmiel must be even dumber because they gave him several chances and he blew it every time. Dumbest stays with Hmiel.

I'll disagree with that. Winning the WDC should earn you something. We know how Frank treats his guys. That said, Honda won a few races in F1, IIRC. I don't know that anyone expected the BAR Honda to be the doorstop it was. Williams won how many championships after Jacques left? ;)

I have no idea what R&R is, but apparently they sell $200 jeans? Target market or not, it seems they can afford use the obscene profit margins to be a sponsor, even if it is one on the cheap regarding what they are sponsoring.

It was a deal Townsend Bell put together.
The benefit to R&R:magazine pages? I don't know. T. Bell never really did straight brand exposure sponsorships. You can't in formula car racing in NA, despite the wonderful sponsor ideas coming from the guests on Fantasy Island.

His name escapes me by I vote for the moroon that was on the pole at Indy a year or 2 before Anton invented crap. Accelerating out of turn 4 to take the green flag, he makes a hard left and puts it into the infield wall. An unassisted first to last.

Roberto was (and is) NOT a "moroon," and he spun on cold tires. Not his greatest moment by any means, but certainly nowhere near unprecedented before or since.

Not just cold tires but just really cold. I seem to remember about half the restarts resulting in spinning cars from cold tires. All three Andrettis wrecked in that race and I think they were all from cold tires.
Roberto, huh? Thought that was way on the back straight? Pacelap? Our beloved Kevin Cogan did it on the main straight at the start taking AJ AND Mario with him as I recall. I think Mario would vote for that one.
From F1Rejects.com. :) I thought it was the South shute, so I had to check.
In terms of a full-time drive, Guerrero had nothing for 1992. But Bernstein brought him back firstly for the Long Beach race, where he drove the old T91/00 Buick, before giving him a new T92/00 for the Indy 500. Guerrero responded, stunning the rest by taking pole with a track-record average speed of 232.482 mph (374.133 kmh) in his Quaker State-sponsored car. But come race day, a cold snap had hit, and with temperatures below 10ยบ Celsius, everyone found it hard to warm up their slicks.
Roberto was one of those caught out. Leading the pack for its second parade lap, he hit the accelerator coming out of turn 2. His cold tyres snapped the car left and pitched him into the back straight infield wall.
