I received the following email, can't confirm if the details are true:

There are absolutely no computer graphics or digital tricks in the
film clip you are about to watch. Everything you see really happened
in real time exactly as you see it.

The film took 606 takes! On the first 605 takes, something, usually
very minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing
up again. The crew spent weeks shooting night and day. By the time it
was over, some people in the crew were ready to change professions.

The film took three months to complete. It is two minutes long. It
cost a reputed six million dollars to produce--including engineering.

However, this clip is fast becoming the most downloaded advertisement
in Internet history. Honda executives figure the ad will soon pay for
itself simply in "free viewings" (Honda isn't paying a dime to have
you watch this commercial!).

When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it
immediately without any hesitation - including the estimated costs.

There are six and only six "hand-made" Honda Accords in the world.
To the horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of
them to make the film.

Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp,
and complete Honda Accord) are parts from those two hand-made cars.

The voiceover is Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda
executives, they liked it and commented on how amazing computer
graphics have gotten.

They fell off their chairs when they found out there were no
graphics. It was for real!

Oh, and about those funky windshield wipers. On the new Accords, the
windshield wipers have water sensors and are designed to start doing
their thing automatically as soon as they become wet.

Don't let them bother you TRANSAM. It's a great commercial. Always worth seeing again. Yes, it's all true. Well, I don't know for sure about the six handmade Accords but the ad part is true.

What?? No way the wheels roll up that incline with that little of a bump. Call me a non-believer, or my more common name, "party pooper", but I don't buy. Snopes says its true, yadda yadda. Fake.

Gosh WB, ALL THIS TIME, and you don't know that "the wheel goes round?" :tony:

Just happened to flip channels tonight, caught a bit on this commercial.

From the horses mouth - it did take over 600 takes, but it actually is not all done in 1 take. Split in half into 2 takes with a very good cut in the middle, although they didn't say where the cut was.

They did show some early takes, and they did show the first tire going up the ramp, but turning and falling off.

I would rather listen to that horrible Mellencamp Chivvy commercial 100 times than see another Bridgestone commercial. Oh man, those are terrible.

I just got an email with a music box made out of John Deere tractor parts. It's beyond even this Honda commercial. It seems real but it's beyond belief! Cool music. How do I post a link to a .swf file?????

The tires were heavily weighted top dead center when standing still on the ramp. The nudge pushed them over and the "falling" mass was enough to get about a third of a rotation up hill out of them. The weight also kept them from rolling backwards down the ramp after they hit the next tire in line.
