Snow has just tapered off here. It's worse in the southeast part of the state. Madison has a couple of inches, but that's it.

Hey Spicoli I'll call Fabio and have him help you clear the tree and other misc. damage. ;)

Look at Seattle weather for November.

Normal rainfall for Novemeber ~5 inches. Rainfall for Nov '06 15+ inches. Almost 1/2 of normal annual. We just broke the all-time record from 1933. Records go back to 1891.

We've had floods, windstorms, snowstorms. The western half of the state was shut down for almost 2 days. I got 5" of snow on Monday night. I don't think we got 5" total last year.

For those of you laughing, in Seattle, 1 inch of snow closes schools. :shakehead They still don't know what snow plows are.

Heard about I-70 this morning. Crazy weather yesterday - north parts of the Kansas City metro got flurries, south and east parts got close to a foot. All on top of ice. Tuesday it was sunny and 70. No wonder everyone seems to have a cold.

I managed to get out of Milwaukee last night before the snow showed up. Sounds like they had a full-fledged blizzard at my apartment and Marquette was completely closed except for essential employees. I didn't want to have to both with a snow emergency in a neighborhood with the highest population density in the county, so I decided to visit my finacee, Upgrade.

Nope, there was no "litenen" with this storm. Its a Bradford pear tree (we have 3 on our property), and there are supposedly some problems with these as they age. Tree doc told me they get more fragile as they age, like getting top heavy. The main prollem starts from how they naturally grow..

...as you can see there are many many branches that grow straight up vertical, and they have Narrow crotch (branch) angles making these trees susceptible to storm damage.

The upside is they still have a couple leaves left on them :laugh: so their foliage last most of the year. Beautiful flowers in spring time.

Ah, I know what you mean. At the house I had in West Des Moines the entire street was lined with Bradford pears. Every year a few would be lost in the storms. One storm took out mine, sheared the thing off three foot from the ground. Landed right next to my neighbors Caddy. They are a great looking tree.

We had a Bradford pear tree that was literally torn to shreds during an ice storm a few years ago. There wasn't much wind, but the weight of the ice from the freezing rain peeled it apart like a banana.

The black on the tree is fungus as the tree is rotting thru that main crotch. Looks like the main stem is starting to hollow out. Now that it is open to the weather, it will rot even faster. The clock is ticking on that tree.

As for a homeowners claim, unless your deductible is stupidly low, a bent gutter isn't worth wasting your time filing a claim.

Get out the chain saw, make some fire wood and call it done. If you know a wood turner he may be interested on some of the crotches in that fallen stem. You could probably get a decently figured bowl or two out of it.

The clock is ticking on that tree.I thought it looked like the spray you use to seal pruning and tree wounds. But regardless it looks like the rot is pretty exensive. I've read where they can "fill" tree cavities but that may be too far gone. Maybe you can rent it out to elves for free cookies.

The reminds me of one of our tasks for next spring. We have a lot of trees and there's no way we can have them all pruned. But we need to get a tree specialist to come in and assess what needs done to keep the trees that are most desireable in decent shape.
