It's a shame Speed wasn't there.
I'm not surprised by Bourdais considering what happened to the last couple CART champions when they went there. Zanardi and da Matta, were gone in a couple years and back in CART. And just as I type this, I realize they both had horrendous accidents after returning as well.
Also, while some teams want you to bring money, the majority of them are looking to win, and I seriously doubt every one of them are passing up on Bordais when he would be a winner in F1 if they didn't.
Remember, after Penske left, Tracy had 1 championship sandwiched by N/H ones, and Bourdais was pretty fast his first year. da Matta drove that car and F1 sent him back.
Let's see how much he improves by Friday.
Still DFL on Wednesday
16. Vitantonio Liuzzi Toro Rosso-Cosworth 1min 21.840secs 68 laps
17. Sebastien Bourdais Toro Rosso-Cosworth 1min 22.518secs 82 laps

Not just Penske leaving, but Ganassi too.
I think a lot of NH success goes to Hamson (sp?). Like him or not he's a hard working and clever guy.
Still, I don't think CDM problems in F1 were his cause as much as it was Toyota. The team was/is a mess, especially when he was there and has hardly done better before or since his time there.
Not that CDM was a lock to be WDC or anything.
Still a little surprised and disappointed that SB isn't faster than the teammate. Grooved tires?
greetings...I'm new here,
In my view it was only day one of a three day test. He would have been shaking down the car and getting acclimated to it on the first day. The last thing he would have wanted to do is push too hard causing an accident without getting adequately comfortable in the car. That impression would be very bad.
I would expect him to get quicker relative to his teammate on day 2 and 3 weather permiting.
Luizzi has had hundreds of hours in the car and multiple races under his belt which is an enormous advantage over someone coming in stone cold. And don't you think that Luizzi would have been pushing extra hard in the car knowing full well that Bourdais could be a replacement if he does well. the faster Luizzi goes the more difficult it is for seabass to impress!!!!!

Ummmm..... The first one you posted was Wednesday....
He will need to pick it up tommorrow if he mad no gains today.
Maybe he did mean Thurs., but c'mon it shows a .003 improvement!!:D Zoom, zoom. Heck, at that rate he could be on pole after 101 more days of testing! Luca is REALLY fast. How many races did he win last year?

And wouldn't Bourdais push as hard as he can knowing full well if he does well it may to lead to a shot in F1?

He did, on day two and three. day one he spent getting acclimated to the car idiosyncrasies, mechanics and engineers. Once comfortable he pushed and the results speak for themselves.
The guy posted a quicker time than the two regular drivers who know that car like the back of their arm!
Berger lauded Bourdais's performance as recently as yesterday and said that he did a fantastic job in the car.

My point was that Bourdais would be pushing just as hard to try and get a seat as others would be to keep theirs.
Also, we don't know what, if any, differences there were in setups. And the times mysteriously changed during the same days reports.
