Why would a team race an extra race after the season is over the the championship points race finalized?

Presumably for the goodwill and exposure this will create for the league and sponsors. Wouldn't it be better to take the money the sponsors, promotor and teams will spend to run the race and give it to drivers/teams to go to MS and put a few new roof on?
