Brack catches the fence coming off of turn one and collects Mario.
Both climbed out under their own power.

From our intreped reporter on the ground.
'bird, do you have your laptop with you at the Speedway with a beer in hand?
Reports have him hitting Brack's debris and filpping (or almost flipping) 3 or 4 times. Mario waves off ambulance...expensive month of April for AGR.
Hang 'em up pal, please.

WIBC reported that he hit Brack's debris, and the front of the car lifted. He went airborne and flipped end over end three times, hitting the catch fence along the way. Landed right side up, skidded to a stop, and walked away.

Just caught the replay!
You ain't gonna freackin' believe this crash.
He ran over some debris and does three backflips. Went higher than the catch fence! Just about took it out of the ballpark.
Looked worse than Sneva in '75.

Robin Miller reports Mario ran over Kenny Brack's rear crash attenuator. Mario said that's what launched him in the air.

Just saw the replay on ESPNNews. HOLY F****G CRAP!!!!!!!!!!   He's a VERY lucky man. According to RM though, didn't seem to bother him much. WOW!!!
Mario is clearly made of very stern stuff -- what else could have kept him racing and winning in the terrible years?
Hmmm, I guess that IRL endorsement is on hold for now.

Mario, please sit the F down and THINK about what you are doing.
Here's your first clue: Kanaan, Dixon, de Ferren.
SEE THE TREND! :( :shakehead

Sorry boys, Mario comes from an era that didn't concern itself with a few brocken bones and the occasional tumble.
Have you seen the interview with him from about twenty minutes after the crash?
If anything, yesterday's thriller has made him more determined.
I'm sure Dee is worried sick, as are the rest of the old women.

Maybe so, I bet that Christmas tree he was wearing looks as if was grown in a little more soil after yesterday's incident though.

So here is this 63 year old turning laps that would put him in the front half of the field. He has only a few hours seat time in this car! Was he really just "shaking" the car down or is there something else in mind?

Old attitudes and rationalizations die hard. I find your responses to be very paleolithic.

I've been called worse by better pchall, but thank you very much for the sophisticated elevation.
I prefer the current day term "oldschool"
IMHO today's high dollar contracts have diluted the sport with prima donnas and wannabe heroes.
Mario is neither.
My regard for Mario Andretti will never change.
I just wish some self-professed racing fans would emerge from the stone age.

OK OK....so Mario got in the fence. He walked away; he's a'ight.
But infinitely more disturbing, is he ON the mر#殣µ©¤ïñg FENCE?
