Joe Barbera passed away today. :(

Another great one is gone.
Nobody makes great cartoons like the old Looney Tunes and H-B teams.

"Our stories were such a contrast to many of the animated series that are straight destruction and blasting away for a solid half-hour."
and
"Today, Charlie Chaplin couldn't get his material by a network," he once said.
This he wrote years ago. Bless him. He was one of the greats.

Different cartoon legend. I saw this in a store in Vegas a few years back and I've been kicking myself since for not buying it.

(It looks much better than that).

Ditto. Last I looked, that was going for over $500 now. I almost bought it for $150.
Adult Swim just had a moment of silence for him.

:(
1/2 of the team that gave me such joy as a child. Hell, even into my adulthood. I'll still sit down and watch old H-B toons.
And as for the Blanc 'Speechless' print, count me in as another who's kicking himself for not buying it.
Man, just off the top of my head - the ones I remember that I liked....
Jetsons
Scooby Doo
Grape Ape
Wacky Races
Speed Buggy
Tom and Jerry
Hong Kong Phooey
Laff-o-lympics
Captain Caveman
Huckleberry Hound
I know I'm just scratching the surface. Yep, the wiki list:

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any kid born since the 60's that wasn't a fan of any of the H-B toons

Great cartooning is such an amazing art. I'm sure Joe wouldn't mind the mild hijack when I say that Mel Blanc cartoon tribute reminded me of the one I saw when Steve Irwin died. It was labelled "Real crocodile tears" and it had all the Australian animals in huddled in tears. Gosh, it got to me.

My Wife bought this for me for our first anniversary back in '94. It has been hanging in a prominent place in our family room since. I think she paid $150, I had no idea it is going for $500 now. It is not a limited edition or numbered or anything.

Amen.
My five year old loves Tom & Jerry. Many of our winter Sunday afternoons are spent watching Tom & Jerry DVDs.

Time Warner just added the Boomerang Channel to our lineup. Its pretty much all H-B toons, all the time (with some Banana Splits thrown in for good measure).
The best part about the H-B toons was how all of the action scenes featured the characters running past the same arrangement of house/tree/rock or couch/lamp/table.

A quick sidetrip to another forum called the big cartoon database www.bcdb.com, gave me this link with a few anecdotes from a former employee of H-B, Mark Evanier.

I am with ya Angel... my kids at 6 (twins B&G), and they LOVE watching all the good stuff we watched: Huckleberry Hound, Grape Ape, Flinstones, Jetsons, etc.....
I love the "running past the same ol' backgrounds" stuff, too.... its such a chuckle to see your kids watch the same things you did @
