View Full Version : New SPEEDCAR Race Series
Stock cars. 600hp engines built in Charlotte. Car to test at VIR on March 5-6. 18 race series beginning next fall, (Nov. '07-Apr. '08) Middle East and Asia. Road racing. Hmmmm...Bernie? NASCAB? The march continues. Jean Alesi is all gaga saying he really wants to do stock cars. Gee, maybe Michael WILL race stock cars before he's finished? Sort of an A1GP/DP concept but with the drivers being the stars not a country or the car.. A fairly sound concept I'd guess.

It's Dubai-based, apparently, so pick a random Sheik.

Sheiks and their money continue to be easily parted. My question is who's the buyer? Where is the demand? Asia? This is the same Asia where the promoters have a chronic ability to not get the job done from what we have seen.
Aside from that, most countries or regions already have their own stock car series. Everywhere except the US they are roadracing series so the cars are more nimble than the lumbering mastodons of NASCAR. Where is the demand for really slow road races with overweight cars that are four times the size of what the locals drive? Alesi must need a payday and not be able to get a ride in DTM...

They sure do like their auto racing in Dubia. Look at the packed stands at teh recent A1GP street race there.
Aren't street races supposed to be where people 'are'?

Is this what we're talking about?

NASCAR is planning to use its Car of Tomorrow as a platform to create regional series around the world, this week's Autosport magazine exclusively reveals.
Maybe, maybe not. Some think it's Bernie playing defense by going on offense.

Only when your indigenous population has a one hundred year history with the automobile as personal transport.
Put camels on that track and it would be packed. ;)
The V8 Supercars went to Dubai last year for the first time. They had a small crowd of foreign workers (mainly Brits), not many locals, though.
From some of the videos I've seen, car culture is alive and growing in the Arabian states, just waiting for a race series to follow.

That race picture is from South Africa not Dubai.

Durban or Dubai. Whatever. Bet on the crowd being low at either venue, be it A1GP or SPEEDCAR. These venues and series are like answers to questions no one asked.

The pics are misleading, all the cool kids will only sit in the grandstands that face mecca. :p
