View Full Version : MotoGP @ IMS
Rumors are big that MotoGP will be adding a second USGP at Tony's place in 2008.
Good news for all you "Indycentrics" if you can put up with the location.

Right, I'd read where the IMS had retained a consulting group to look into the practicality of a bike race, but I didn't know whether it was AMA or MotoGP they were looking at.
BTW, Autosport has begun MotoGP coverage for anyone that hasn't noticed.

Just like I thinks a second F-1 race would be huge, a second Moto Gp race will be HUGE here in the Midwest.
Think there were a lot of Montoya fans when he was in F-1, let Moto GP come to Indy and see how many Nicky Hayden fans there are.
I'll be there for sure if it happens.
I'm surprised World Superbike isn't trying to get into IMS as well. They lost Laguna & I figured they'd find a new venue right away.

The local story going around is that it is going to happen.
But Oval-RC-Oval-RC changes - one month after the other, is the real dilemma, as in can the crews get that done in that quick of a time frame. They also need to put another chicane in at T-13/straight-away. And I'm hearing that it won't just be MotoGP, but more of a series of races (gee, maybe a festival of speed? :gomer: )
But anyway, I see this as fantastic. I have never had a prollem weith the facility, its just that 2races they run there have ZERO appeal to me.
Now I'll have 2 each year.

Stoner not impressed. :\
"The track conditions vary drastically between the old surface and the new. Grip is good on the old stuff but there isn't even minimum grip on the recently laid asphalt and the rain makes it much worse because it isn't draining off. If it continues to rain like it did this afternoon then I'm not sure the conditions will be safe enough to race in."

Rossi on pole. Hayden takes P4 in qualifying, Spies P5.
For the teammate comparisons, that would be Pedrosa on Bridgestones P8, and Capirossi/Vermeulen P13/15.
Is the race on TV tomorrow? What channel?

Ike is on its way, and there's been scuttlebutt the MotoGP race could go off at 1:15, instead of 3, in order to avoid the standing water issues seen on Friday. The riders have said the track would be unrideable in such conditions... and a few have said the race could be canceled if its that bad again. So let's hope for the best that the race gets away at some point.

Race got underway... and then got stopped on lap 20 of 28.
Potential podium if they finish arguing over whether or not the race can be restarted (since it's not at 75% yet, but it's a safety issue with the track un-rideable)... Rossi, Hayden, Lorenzo . P6 is Spies :thumbup:

Horrid conditions. Nice to see Hayden leading the race until his tires went off. Spies beating the next best Suzuki rider by three positions was a big feather in his cap. I'm guessing he finds his way into MotoGP.
The NBC coverage wasn't great but not the worst we've seen.

Yeah, I'm sure Vale probably could have passed him much earlier than he did, but because of the weather he probably just waited for Hayden to burn up his tires and come back to him. I'm just happy that nobody got hurt and that IMS got the weather TG deserves.

I've had Shaheen in my crosshairs for years. Total dufus and nothing I heard sunday changed my mind. Network coverage of MotoGP is awful. Only reason Shaheen gets the call is that he's the one working that knows what a motorcycle is.
