Thought I read somewhere that the government issued a rifle to just about everyone. National Guard sort of thing.

Liechtenstein, which has about 34,000 inhabitants and is slightly smaller than Washington DC, doesn't have an army.
I wondered how a country that small managed to survive two world wars without being absorbed by somebody. Interesting history at wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liechtenstein).
