Anyone in St. Louis have a notion about this?

That's quite a hint.
Wasn't negotiating with Dover Downs about races in St. Louis and Nashville part of CART's deal with them to hire Chris Pook?
Ding, ding. We have a partial winner visiting from the dark side.

Looks pretty .
Uhhh.. I'm from St.Louis, 18 miles so. of Downtown, and I haven't heard a peep about this. I e-mailed the gal on the Worlds Fair web-site to offer myself as a volunteer(and get any lowdown I can on the race to pass on ;) ) The park has been undergoing extensive renovations the last 3 years or so. It's actually a beautiful park and the St. Louis Zoo is world class. As good as San Diego's. Without knowing the course layout, this could be a very undulating track or relatively flat. I'll let you guys know what's up if I hear anything else.
Excellent investigative work pchall! 12 Horse in the mail!

I live 18 miles in the other direction of cart7 and work downtown. This is the first I have heard of it. Even with the rennovations, I don't see how the roads in Forrest Park will be wide enough.

hmmm, looking closely at the map, as I always do, ;) , I noticed that in the middle there is a mark for:
World Fair Pavilion
(Race HQ)
And just a little left and up from that there is a mark for 'finish'?
Something tells me this has nothing to do with ChampCar...

Yes. As you can see it's only going to be a 1 lap race.

Yep, most of the roads through there are two lane affairs with some serious curbing. I haven't been through the park the last 2 years other than to go to the zoo or the art museum. Everything else was pretty torn up. Parking is another issue. I hope to hear back from that gal and will pass on the information.

Compare the above to this build plan for the park:

There's a race track in there somewhere...
I decided to call Cart today and try and confirm this. This, after repeated E-mail attempts to the 1904 committee and Cart which have been ignored.
The gal at Cart confirmed that she was aware that Cart was in negotiations with the city to have a race. She would not comment nor new anything further as to whether the race was in the park or downtown(I have a feeling if there is a race, it will be downtown). She said that when the races are in the planning stages, they don't comment on them. She also found it unusual for the 1904 fair organizers to be posting the race as an event that's going to happen when it isn't finalized.
Those of you attending the Cleveland town hall may want to try and get Pook to speak on this.

I went to grad school in Saint Louis and loved that city. ANY race there would be cool as it would give me an excuse to go back.

cart7, thanks for calling and checking on this.
Good to see this one is alive.
Good place for a race.

I'm so sick of hearing about downforce and how at a given speed, a champcar could drive upside down on the ceiling.
It's time for Kendall to shut his piehole and do a loop-the-loop on the St. Louis arch.
Imagine the publicity. ;)

St. Louis would be cool. 5 hour drive. Make that 4 hour drive.
