Ranger, 20, one of Canada's top driving prospects, leaves open wheel racing to begin a new career on the 12-race NASCAR Canada Series, formerly CASCAR, which opens May 26 at Cayuga Speedway Park near Hamilton.

"I raced two years in Champ Car and I liked the series, but it's very expensive," said Ranger, who finished 10th overall last season. "I need to have a future and I don't know if there was a future in Champ Car.

"I'd have to fight (to get a spot on a team) every year and again this year I didn't have a ride, so I decided to go to NASCAR.

he is going to make a fair income from prize money that he wouldn't otherwise. still should be in an openwheel car though. there is only one man who is fit for the blame for andrew and others being left in the wilderness.

I dont blame him for not wanting to scramble for a ride. Champcar is in terrible shape right now money is tight

I don't know how much prize money is there for NASCAR Canada... the old series - CASCAR - was pretty low profile, supporting the Molson Indy in Toronto was their big event really. Other than that it's crappy little run-down ovals in the middle of nowhere.

But it beats paying for a ride I guess. :)

Now we know where the Canadian Wal-Mart and P&G money went:

According to this PDF report (http://www.champcarworldseries.com/Content/PDF/Results/2006/20061231PDFR_0002.pdf) from Champ Car, Ranger had 315k in prize money for 2006. No idea how much he actually saw of that.

$315K - that's probably close to CASCAR's total for its entire field... :p

And it's in Canadian dollars. ;)

Hopefully some day CC will be strong enough to keep drivers like Andrew Ranger around.

That Lexington sponsorship didn't last long.

Thanks for the sponsor-poaching, Paul.

I think the LXN2 on the sidepod is for Lexington.

Lexington Energy Services Inc. was incorporated as a Nevada company on March 30, 2005. We have three wholly-owned subsidiaries... snip ... We also own LXN2 LLC, which was set up as a Michigan LLC on February 14, 2007. We plan to use LXN2 LLC for the future growth of a manufacturing facility in Michigan, US for our nitrogen generation system.
