Is anyone else sick of him apologizing? I don't listen to him, but I used to like the guy, now I don't know. I think I'd rather lose my job than start kissing ass to try it. Jesse Jackson is not the emperor of black people ("thats not what he told my dad"), doesn't he have something more important to deal with?? As much as I can't stand Howard Stern, he is probably the only guy other than O&A who would've stood up for themselves in a situation like this.

I wonder if there would be the same outcry if he made fun of the players as lesbians instead?

Regardless of what you think of his incessant apologizing and groveling, it was truely one of the stupidst things I could imagine anyone saying. Who in their right mind could possibly have thought that was a good idea? Imus is a stroke, and I will be quite glad to see him join the ranks of the unemployed.

Stern has been claiming the dudes a raciest for 20 years. He tells of one day at NBC where Imus the retard goes on an N word frenzy in the hall way ala the dork from Sienfeld.

More amazing to me is that this means someone actually listens to that POS show.

The Stern crew's 'analysis' of his apology was beautiful, though.

[QUOTE=Sean O'Gorman;191545]Is anyone else sick of him apologizing? QUOTE]

He's now suspended for two weeks.

I haven't listened to Imus much lately, but I've listened to him since before he was fired and shipped off to Cleveland in the 70s.

What's got me is I don't recall his apologizing for anything ever. His show makes fun at everything and everybody including himself and if people can't have a sense of humor about themselves or see how his comments often just reveal the stupidity of racism, sexism, etc. then they need to get over it. Or at least that's how I would expect Imus to respond to Sharpton and Jackson. (Two people he actually has called out as frauds)

Anyway, the RU women was a pretty good story around here during March and they deserve credit. But Imus seems genuinely upset with what he's done. Maybe this is just the latest thing he wants to become self-absorbed with. I would have expected him to say "bite me" and let Sharpton talk himself out. Maybe ratings aren't where they once were.

By a show of hands how many of you that are opposed to what Imus said are Opie and Anthony or Howard Stern fans?

No point, just curious.

I rarely listen, but knowing his history w/ Imus, I had a suspicion yesterday would be a good day to tune in. Not as entertaining as listening to Imus & Sharpton trying to out-holier-than-thou each other, but still fun in an idiot vs. idiot way.

Personally, while I don't agree w/ what Imus said, I'm not opposed to it as such. He's a talk radio douchebag, he's going to say stupid stuff. The Rutgers girls should've called him a mush-mouthed cracker-ass museum piece and then we could've all resumed our lives. This whole apology process (and the idea that anyone has to answer to an anti-Semite like Sharpton) is far more offensive than the original comments, IMO.

No one is infringing on his right to freedon of speech. CBS and MSNBC, however have every right to suspend or fire him for what he says.

If a sports journalist had said the same thing, would the uproar have been as big?

This story made the front page, below the banner of the Newark Star Ledger today, along with a front page editorial.

CBS news president said "Our future relationship with Imus is contingent on him keeping his word (to change the discourse of the show)"

I guess we know know why Imus is shaking. After the Rather and Janet Jackson debacle they have no spine anymore.

BTW his suspension doesn't start until Monday because the Imus radiothon to support the Tomorrow's Children Fund which annually raises millions is scheduled for this Thursday and Friday. Gotta let the "villian" help some kids with cancer before we make an example of him:shakehead

What I'm confused by is he's said worse stuff than this all the time and the Jiggaboo wannabe comment was a quote from a Spike Lee movie. Why this? Why now?

TFF

[QUOTE=TrueBrit;191626]It was an unbelievably stupid thing to say.

It would be stupid for you or me or most to say, but it is what he does and how he's earned a good living for a long time.

I don't wish to defend him since he doesn't want to defend himself, but he didn't say they were "Nappy Head Hos", he said they looked like it. He said they looked like a rough crew. He said the Tennessee team was "kinda cute". He was commenting on how they came accross on TV without any professed knowledge of the team. It was an observation not an opinion based on fact.

And it was an observation meant to point out what everyone might say but is unwilling to say. In intent it is no different than pointing out that Hillary Clinton looks a little wide in her pants suits or that Carl Edwards had a distracting "milk dud" on his lip, or that people fear McCain might be prone to go a little nuts at times. That's the schtick, like it or not.

The RU woman didn't deserve to be made fun of and they are free to chose how they respond to the situation. They could choose to make a big stink about this because racism real and perceived is something that is a very serious issue in this country and will be for a long time. Or they could have said "You know what, we aren't a bunch of pretty girls. We are comfortable in our own skin. Playing tough defense is the only thing we are concerned about. And we will kick anyone's ass that says finishing #2 was a fluke. You want us to doll up? How's that gonna win a game?" Either option was their choice. I just hope they know that Sharpton and Jackson have much more to gain from this than they do. They are being used, even if it is willingly.

In no way do I think Imus ever expected this to be something he'd spent more than 30 seconds talking about. It was a throw away, but if he learns something from it all the better.

I don't find racism funny on any level, nor do i tolerate it. (Gomers are a different story). For example - the only ONE word not allowed at Smack is an instant ban and is the word you depicted above. Stevie, Cam and I do not moderate anything but that (and pr0n).

No, it would not. If the subject was their poor shooting percentage, you would be discussing their athletic performance, not any of their physical characteristics. But, I have a sneaking suspicion that you knew that.

Their achievements, in case you were not aware of them, included making it to the NCAA finals, scholastic honors, extracurricular activities, among others.

Does the appellation used by Imus also apply to the white members of the RU team?

Why is anything Imus ever has said or ever will say considered news?

Unless he takes an AK47 and machine guns a mall nothing he says or does should ever be considered newsworthy.

That the entire press corps of the United States is fixated on anything that jackass says or does is the reprehensible action here. That it got any mention anywhere is a sick joke.

Being a Idiot

I created the IRL.

Dear Al Sharpton, I am truly sorry because I ruined the Indianapolis 500, cheated Paul Tracy out of an Indy 500 win, made PJ Chesson a star, gave Gene Simmons lots of money to write the IRL theme song "I am Mindy". I probably did a lot of other bad stuff too, but I can't remember. Um, Fred?

Hey, IMHO, racism is wrong on any level. Plenty of African Americans at my school, and some great folks I am still in touch with today. You get then when your school is one that graduates 100% of their students...many go on to great careers. I'm very fortunate to have attended one of the greatest private schools in the state.
