Jamie said he was trying to save it and that it might have actually helped him by putting the bike between himself and May. "In the long run, getting highsided might have saved me because my bike protected me.

Hacking got up and stood in place to let the other riders avoid him. "All of the guys in back did an excellent job. The one thing that stood out in my mind ... when I first started this roadracing deal, my riding instructor said if anything ever happened like that to stand there and wave your arms vigorously. I can remember him saying that clear as day," he said.
