It's a 1.6 liter turbo diesel.
So far they haven't announced any plans to bring MINI D to the U.S.
But that's probably imperial gallons and the Euro system for estimating fuel economy is pretty optimistic.

Ok, I guess I'll be the one to throw cold water on this.
Are they saying that removing the drag from the alternator will double or triple your gas mileage? What happens when you turn on the A/C?
And how does storing electrical energy help a car that doesn't have an electric motor?

New-tech diesels aside, mileage for the current US gasoline version Mini is 32/40 which stacks up well for a non-hybrid plus it's actually nice to drive on a freeway which most hybrids are not, the Accord being the exception.
