Perhaps this belongs in the Sopranos thread, but whatever. You may have noticed that Jets coach Mangini had a cameo in this week's episode. Very cool.

But there is no way hosehead Coughlin would be considered cool enough to be invited to the next to last episode of the Sopranos. The idea of Coughlin being an honored guest at Visuvios would be a joke. Tony eager to go over to say hello is totally unbelievable. Even moreso than Tony being a Jet fan.

How far the Giants have fallen.

For those that don't know the area, the Jets are the bastard stepchild of NY. Jets fans are much in the minority, especially in Jersey. Their roots are in Long Island and they still practice out at Hofstra U. Folks who go to Jets games used to be people from Queens and LI or those that couldn't get Giants tickets.

The Maras adopted Jersey as their new home and rented the stadium to Leon Hess out of mercy when Shea became too much of a dump.

When a show set in and about Jersey (and Chase has gotten so much right) chooses a Jet coach over a Giant coach then it is proof that Coughlin continues to lose the soul of the team and is a disgrace to the Mara family.

wgaf about a tv show, I doubt Coughlin would even want to be involved with that.

He's such a dweeb, of course he wouldn't. And neither do I. My point is when Chase chooses to portray a popular coach in a North Jersey restaurant, he did not pick the Giant coach. Only with the Giants in their current state and Coughlin as coach would that be remotely believable.

Think Rich Kotite and Parcells in reverse.

Given that Galdonfini is an RU grad and wears a Brian Leonard jersey to every game that might not have been a stretch (and a nice inside joke). But for realism, no one, least of all for a Tony Soprano type, gives a rip about (any) college football here. RU football is a good story right now, but as soon as they start losing they'll be the butt of every joke just as before.

Mangini was the hotter coach. The NY media is in love with him. Why would they ask Coughlin?

How in the world the Giants looked at his Jag resume and assumed he was fit for duty is the only thing that should send him packing anywhere.
