NBC cut The Cape back to 10 episodes from 13. It also reached a new level of idiocy when the cape had to learn how to do a high wire/tight rope walk 40 stories up between buildings in 2 days. Apparently, it didn't occur to anyone that you could just hang from the rope to get across safely. :)

I recorded it to watch tonight. It looks promising from the promos.

Showtime's really stepped up their game the last few years. Shameless was really good (though I've been told to check out the British original).

I have it recorded at the 'rents house. I wonder how this show is going to perform ratings-wise for the network. While it does have a good story behind it, not as many people are as familiar with the Borgias as they are with the Henry VIII stuff in The Tudors.

Mythbusters is also back on the air this week, and Deadliest Catch starts next week.

I have that list and "I WANT to stop watching it but I would miss it if were cancelled" list. How goofy is that? [don't answer]. Nikita is on that list. Each show is a great. Lots of action, etc. etc. But there is getting to be a sameness about them that is wearing thin. I should probably add that I'm about 6 weeks behind. Too many nighttime supplier seminars to keep up with TV at this time of year. Maybe something has happened to alleviate the "Bad, bad Percy; Conflicted Alex; Good Nikita" drone. The hunka hunka in the CIA is not a bad addition. ;)

I think you either love him or hate him (Buscemi). I love the way he does that character and makes him the 1920's mob boss. It takes quite a few episodes until he shows anything at all behind the steely look and sardonic delivery.

Just got caught up on Nikita the other day. Without spoilers, it is taking some interesting turns.

All the flashbacks in the early episodes of The Event were just painful for me. I'm enjoying it much more now. I did see somewhere that the creators promised and ending of some sort if it isn't renewed.

Also, my annual complaint. Another season of an AMC show (Breaking Bad!) and still no AMC HD on DirecTV. If the NFL ever makes HD games available online (live), DirecTV is finished for me.

Second season is totally different from the first, much smarter, thoughtful, philosophical and funny.

Minimalist low budget approach a huge asset. Fox gives him freedom so long as he doesn't spend anything. Forces a very focused script and direction while allowing an air guitar segment of the complete 3+ minute "Who Are You?" while driving to PA and his bewildered daughter watch.

I find it not just appointment TV but every second fascinating. And yeah, very NYC.

Uncomfortable, awkward, occasionally horrifying and regularly fascinating. often at the same time.Yes. I'd add unexpected and unorthodox.

The nearly 4 minutes of air drumming/no dialog scene to the entire length of "Who Are You?" while driving his daughters to PA, followed by the ******toe scene with his great aunt. Great episode.

Trick or Treating with his daughters on the Lower East Side and the zombies.

Seducing Joan Rivers... if you want to call that seducing.

The scene in the subway with the street musician playing amazingly while the homeless guy showers

His unrequited love for Pamela episode. Amazing "speech" he gave

Seeing the homeless guy getting decapitated while on his way to a first date -- Louie, not the homeless guy.

These things just don't happen elsewhere on TV. Second season really very different and better than the first, but then each episode is unique in many ways. There doesn't seem to be much of a formula.

World War II in Colour
Military Channel

The sizzle is they colored in all the old black and white WWII footage, but the meat of the program is a great documentary series on the entire conflict. From Moussolini's invasion of the Horn of Africa in 1936 to the Soviet invasion of Manchuria after the Japanese surrendered in 1945.

It's split up into one hour episodes that are detailed, but the editing, maps, and British narrator keep it from getting bogged down.

The American documentaries usually narrow it down to:
Hitler --> Pearl Harbor --> D-day --> Hiroshima --> Victory!

But, this series talks about the Spanish Civil War (fascists vs communists, who do you root for?), the British fighting the Japanese in Burma, and the Eastern Front (don't go in there).

Can't agree more.

There are so many battles, skirmishes and events (naturally) in 6 years of world conflict that its easy to skim over certain ones cause of the big ones that happened.

We have all seen stories on the big events, whether it be from documentaries past or good (or even really bad) war movies.

The smaller events, really hit home about the fact that this was a true 'world war' when you get to watch documentaries on the small Japanese force that invaded an Aleutian Island and the subsequent removal of them by the US. The British and Canadians trying desperately to hold onto Hong Kong. Australia scrambling to protect its north shore because the Japanese came within a couple hundred miles of it. Malta, the little islands in the middle of the Med who held off countless German and Italian attacks and remained a British Posession. The Murmansk run, the northern convoys that brought Shermans and supplies to the Russians. I could go on... Greece invasion etc.etc.etc.

Any doc that can flesh out the smaller stories along with the big ones is a doc that needs to be watched.

Anyone else catch Rising: The Rebuilding of Ground Zero on the Discovery Channel? I've only watched the first two episodes, but what they've shown has been pretty interesting. The show focuses on the building of Tower One and how the goal is to have the building be 1,000 feet tall by the anniversary next month. There were three episodes on last Thursday and three more this week. All are commercial free, thanks to Chevy.

Who knew watching a building go up would be so fascinating?

The American documentaries usually narrow it down to:
Hitler --> Pearl Harbor --> D-day --> Hiroshima --> Victory!Agree. Surprisingly good show.

But you left out a few reliable "options" in usual US history rundowns.

Daylight Strategic Bombing (read firebombing of cities) --> P51 --> Battle of the Bulge/NUTS --> Iwo Jima/Okinawa/Kamikaze fanatical suicidal fighting in the Pacific

I also really liked Decisions the Shook the World on FDR's decisions leading up to US involvement in WWII. Very well done and presented in a different way with more emphasis on the political and constitutional challenges he was facing at the time.

Louie is like being tickled. It's makes you laugh, but you still feel violated. That's pretty much gets it. Except there are also times when it is horrifying to watch and you turn away, but feel compelled to turn back.

I also like the way he uses comedians for the other roles in the show. The episode with his old comedian buddy who never made it and was drinking himself to death was spot on in his desperation. Nailed the horror.

OK, I'll say it outloud. I miss Fringe. The cow, Walter, the idiot woman with the blond hair. Extremely politely weird. I like it. It was back this week but I'm about a month behind in my Tivo stuff.

back on friday and i thought it was done

I wonder what they're going to do with House this season?

But I'm really waiting for Justified.

Boardwalk Empire is back next week as well.

I'm going to check out "Person of Interest". The concept is similar to "The Minority Report" - foreknowledge of a future murder - but in this they don't know whether the person is perpetrator or victim.

And OBTW, Rescue Me had one of the better series wrap-ups that I've seen.

Person of Interest, Terra Nova and Boss are the only new ones I'm planning to try. Not sure about Boss but I interested to see if Kelsey Grammer can pull off that character.

Anyone else watching "breaking bad"?

In 4th season, and the ending of the 11th episode the other night was like nothing I have ever seen on TV before.

Absolutely the most brilliant acting/script ever.

When that show ends I fully intend to destroy my television, because it will be entirely worthless afterwards. Nothing so good will ever appear on it again.

To bring things down to a more plebeian level, I was totally amazed at the job Ted Danson did on CSI. If it keeps up, he'll be just what the show needed. Someone to bring back the quirkiness of Grissom. Although it may be too far down the pipe to get its audience back, at least it's a pleasure for us to watch this year.

One more season, but I suppose the show had to end sooner than later. Great TV probably doesn't last much longer than a few seasons.

And with Marg Helgenberger leaving it can only get better! Her character has turned so whiny over the years.

Is there anything new that is good this year on network TV? No one has told me I should watch anything. I'm glad given the lack of time I've had of late, but that seems pretty bad to not have anything good.

Only thing I've gotten around to watching is the first episode of Terra Nova. Interesting start. Given the ratings vs. expense of the show I think it will be one season and done though.

Person of Interest has potential. Terra Nova COULD be something, but I'm pretty sure it won't be.

Other than that, "Prohibition" Sun-Tues. on PBS.

Were the ratings low? They built that huge set in the hinterland of Queensland, Australia so I'm sure they'd like to amortize it over a few years if they could.

We're just working on the first week so I haven't seen anything new but we've got a few "on tape." I'll let you know if I like any of them, Insomniac.

Depends on how you define low. They had about 9 million viewers in the overnight ratings. DWTS had 15 million and the sitcoms on CBS had from 10-20 million depending on the show. I suspect 9 million isn't enough long term. I think it was probably not wise to put it up against DWTS.

I think it's probably a good thing that they're wrapping it up next season. The show has been amazing, in part, because they've not dragged it out needlessly. I love Dexter as well, but it's embarking on Season 6 this weekend and I just find myself wondering how much more they can do with the premise.

I think on Dexter they're just watching the ratings. I imagine the end game is he dies or gets caught and they'll green light that season when we start to get bored. I mean, if we're still watching now we've already more than suspended reality to accept he's still not dead/in jail.
