But for every takeover and breakup there were thousands of lawyers, stockholders, and marketers that made bazzilions of dollars creating no real value.

But what would our longdistance and mobile bills be if they hadn't unregulated them and broke up the biz? Hard to say.

Almost OT, my dad did market research work for ATT prior to the break up and at the time they were trying to figure out what the market for wireless might be. Tops on the list was secure communication to/from oil platforms that previously was done by radio. Companies didn't want competitors knowing their production and workers wanted private communication with families.

Road warrior sales people were second.

I don't think text messaging 8th graders were on the list.
