The big announcement of the day was that next year's Qatar GP will be run under lights. Musco Lighting, the
company doing the work, has done the Charlotte superspeedway in North Carolina. The Losail track will use 3700
bulbs and be the biggest lighting project ever undertaken for a sporting event. There will be an unofficial test
in October and part of the IRTA test next February just before the GP on March 9 will be held under lights.
The announcement took some riders by surprise. 'Where have I been?' said Nicky Hayden. Casey Stoner was equally
shocked. Then they both remembered that they grew up racing dirt tracks at night. 'Sounds pretty cool,' was
Nicky's final word on the subject.
Hopefully this is the first use of the title 'Arabian Nights' on this subject. It certainly won't be the last.
