Major wreck in NHRA.... (UPDATED)
It is being reported that John Force and Kenny Bernstein were involved in a major accident during the Funny Car event at the O'Reilly Fall Nationals in Ennis today.

The two made contact at the end of the track.

Reports are that Force is conscious, but has broken both legs.

UPDATE:

Force was taken to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas after his crash with Bernstein in the second-round elimination pass at Texas Motorplex.

NHRA doctor Dr. Dwight Shewchuk attneded to Force before he was flown by helicopter to the hospital. He said that Force had serious injuries to both legs and his right hand. He also has an apparent concusion.

Bernstein was reported to be fine, with just a slight headache.

More details are expected to be released later on Sunday.

I heard about that. The broadcast begins at 7 ET on ESPN2.

It sounds like they are both lucky to be alive. A crash at 300 mph...

He is reportedly having surgery on his knee to repair and abrasion to the bone. Wrist dislocated and broken. I'm hearing it is only one leg/ankle broken.

Wish him the best and a speedy recovery.

Wierd wreck. I don't recall seeing a back half of a FC come off and while not minimizing the impact I've seen far worse looking accidents with far fewer injuries. I assume it was his impact with the wall that did most of the damage.

I take it back. The video confused me because the camera stayed with the front of the car. Force was in the back of the car that ripped away. He was totally exposed at over 300 mph. Truly lucky to be alive. And he's talking about trying to get back in the car to finish the season.
