I took out an account years ago but keep trying to cancel it. I thought I has it done, but now I keep getting charged $6/mo and I can find not phone # or ability on the website to cancel the subscription.

You can't.
Years ago I used one of those free mailer discs to get online as a last resort when my ISP was belly up for the night. I called to cancel a few days later and it was worse than dealing with Sears. Attitude, won't take no for an answer, condescending...one of the worse phone calls of my life. I told the dude after 30 minutes of BS "dude, waddya care, really, wadddya care? Why are busting my balls?" And he was still dick.
I heard they changed that years ago. Why?

I'm surprised they didn't just give you the service for free each time you tried to cancel.

I'm still looking for a phone number for you.
I can't find a phone number. It should be on your credit card statement if that's how you're paying for it.
Edit: See if this helps. Start with My Account http://help.aol.com/help/supportcentral/supportcentral.do;jsessionid=8ACD242297F2F57404BF4 B7F56C42117

That was exactly like my conversation except mine was over a half an hour of that crap.

AOL takes "I wish I knew how to quit you!" to a whole different audience...

Tell your credit card company the situation and have them refuse any further charges.

I had this happen with AOL and Netscape (I had a $6 dial-up plan with both when I was working in valet parking so I could go on the Internet at work), it took me 2-3 tries each time, but eventually you get a form confirming that you will be staying on at a reduced rate, but if you fill out the back side, they'll cancel your account.

I always found a customer service number under the Help menu in AOL. Either that, or keyword "billing" usually had a phone number. Then it was all about getting bounced through the system (and whether you would get a rep that spoke English).

No idea if any of these numbers still work:

Use your CC company if needed as chop said.
