Its the same weather up here, too. But, a year ago this coming Friday, we had two feet of snow drop on us, so Ank's not too far off the mark in prepping for skiing.
Edit: Ank, that picture you posted imakes me want to take up skiing, its so pretty.

You know the National Socialists had pieces of pro-winter/anti-summer flair they made the Jews wear when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

Style mostly. Skiers and boards go down the mountain at different rates of speed and they have vastly different turning behavior. Any more both sides tend to annoy each other. I hear just as much complaining by boarders about idiot skiers as I do the other way around. One problem with boarders that once was a problem with skiers is boarders tend to be younger and 13 year old males are annoying as hell no matter what is strapped to their feet. 90% of the 13 year olds now board. Good skiers and good boarders get along just fine.
The main reason Alta isn't open to boarders is it is not designed for boarders. The traverses that get you from point A to point B are very narrow and the place is just very focused on skiing. The flip side of the coin is also true, many of the other resorts are building to suit the needs of boarders because there are so many more of them. Boarders and skiers are not looking for the exact same things in a mountain, Alta has decided to focus on being the absolute best at just one.

Coincidence. My buddy lives near Jackson MI and wants to hit it up sometime. He's an intermediate skier at best and I think it would be a huge mistake. I've had a few knee surgeries and ACL reconstruction as a result of being on a run that was too much for me at Breckenridge, so I'm a tad more realistic now.
He got 3 of us kicked out of the one and only IRL race we attended at MIS, so I'll always have a soft spot for him, though.
Thanks for the article.

Yep.
Powderhounds, we have SNOW! Feet and feet of it. Wolf Creek reported 51 inches over the weekend, Silverton reported more than four feet, Aspen/Snowmass scored 30 inches, and Crested Butte hit the two foot mark. Beaver Creek, Loveland, and Steamboat were each able to add a foot or more of fresh powder to their cumulative snowfall.
It looks like Mother Nature is sending ANOTHER storm our way, just in time for you weekend warriors. Front range resorts are expected to get several inches of snow while southern resorts may score a couple more FEET. I think the snow gods heard our prayers. Keep it up!

review (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/01/18/DDOLUGII7.DTL&type=movies)
Steep" is about people happy to admit their addiction to extreme skiing. What they like about it is that there are no rules, no waiting in line for a smooth-running chairlift to take them and hundreds of other people up a mountainside where they wait their turn to ski down prescribed pathways. Instead, they crawl up the sheer rock faces of towering mountains and, reaching the top, clamp a pair of skis to their feet and zoom back down again, swerving recklessly around rock outcroppings.

It is quite possible the canyons have been getting about a foot new every day for the last few days and the avalanche danger is pretty high locally and very high in the Uintas.
