I knew Bob Plant was looking trollish, but I had no idea Jimmy Page was the 3rd Winter brother. :eek:

Still one of my top three fav bands... but I don't think I'd go to the show if I were given free tix and a police escort :gomer: In my mind Zep were four wildly talented young dudes that could punch out heavy tunes like no one else... not three old dudes trying to rekindle a fire.

It seems like the wrath of the gods got a punch in the nose and it started to flow, I think they might be sinking...

I saw them in about 1977-78 at the Pontiac Silverdome. Absolutely horrible. But it wasn't really their fault. They sound was bouncing and echoing off the bubble and just sounded like noise. Almost couldn't recognize the songs.

I think that was before they had sophisticated sound equipment to cancel noise/echos in big stadium shows.

The only time I heard sound that bad was about 10 years later at the PNC Center in Jersey for a Kenny Loggins concert (Shut up. GF bought the tickets). In the expensive seats the sound was muffled and flat. We decided to leave and when we got to the grass seats in the back the sound was suddenly great.

No, definitely girl. She had certain talents that made seeing Loggins during his worst "Footloose" era a possibility.

She was also nuts and liked to pick fights at the most inconvenient times.

Broke up with her in a bar after midnight when she had one of her fits and I walked 15 miles home in sub-zero January weather. Cold but liberating.

But she was originally a blind date, sort of. She worked at a liquor store I frequented and told another cashier that she wanted to date me. That cashier told me, so I gave her my card and told her to call me. She did and we arranged to meet for a drink.

One problem; I wasn't the customer she wanted to date. When we met I immediately knew I wasn't the right guy but was a gentleman about it and offered to buy her a drink anyway.

Six crazy months later I was walking along a two lane road in the cold at 2 am.

Didn't help. Silverdome was just awful acoustics. I can attest to years later, when I had lions season tix, no halftime concert ever sounded good. The silverdome just sounded bad.

I am with you. Same reason I will probably not see the Stones again.

I also them at the Pontiac Silverdome in I think 1978. It was awful but not their fault. The sound was bouncing off the bubble roof and echoing around the place to the point it just sounded like a loud mess.

Somehow Bruce is not the same. He continues to put out and perform new music that speaks to his current life. That's different than watching 60 year olds performing 40 year old hits.

His last 3 or 4 albums have been pretty good and though I saw him live 3 or so years ago, and have never seen the Stones or LZ other then on tape (same with Bruce from an earlier era) he seems to be head and shoulders above them (and always has been) as a concert performer.

It was the last concert ever there because he literally broke the building. People were jumping and dancing so wildly that the balcony cracked.

I've know people who claimed they didn't even like Bruce... Until they were hauled off to a concert by friends.

The Stones, as great and influential a band as they are, have always been less than inspired as a live act. I've collected, ummm, 'alternative' recordings for years, and there's a reason why there are few diehard Stones collectors- same setlists, same safe note-for-note arrangements, same patter, same jokes night after night. They'd been phoning it in live even back at their peak, which was decidedly a long, long time ago.

Zeppelin had their share of problems, what with Page and his legendary fatfingers, Plant's endless mindnumbingly stoned patter, and the whole band often hopelessly out of tune by the end of the set, but on a good night there was real magic there, warts and all.

Gotta confess I was pretty disappointed by the Quadrophenia show when I caught it- what, like ten years ago? The whole thing seemed very weighted down, very orchestrated in a way that sapped the thing that made the Who a great live band. Their shows were full of barely-controlled, stripped-down energy, which is hard to pull off with ten or fifteen people on stage all with marks to hit. Still a hugely important album, one of my favorites, which made it all the harder to take.

I saw Zepplin in 1977 in Cleveland and they were on that night. It was nearly a perfect show. The reviews from the previous show in Indianapolis were bad, and they played maybe 6 less songs in Indy. So we lucked out for that one.

I have seen the Stones maybe 5-6 times, and each one of those shows were totally forgettable. I would never pay to see them again.

I saw the Who twice, once when Keith Moon was still with us, and once after. In my mind, it was never the same band without Moon. The Isle of Wight show from the early 70's that is available on dvd is amazing.

I thought Pink Floyd could do a stadium show better than any other band. I saw them in Cleveland on their Animals tour. I wish I could live through that again.

Just some observations from an old fool and rock-n-roll outlaw. :gomer:
