On Criminal Minds last week, a woman was shown being tortured with a cattle prod and yet they fine ABC and it's affiliates for showing some ass five years after the fact :confused: Who the hell even remembers outside of the FCC commissioners and the couple million guys with vidcaps of that scene with Charlotte Ross on their computers...? :gomer:

I remember the scene. There was nothing sexual about it. It was a dramatic exchange about being embarrassed. I do recall to that they could have accomplished the same thing with less ass, but Bochco clearly wanted to push things.

Far more offensive to me was another shower scene where we got more of a look at Dennis Franz's ass than we'll ever need as he had a little shower play with his wife. :yuck:

Not to get all political, but what I don't get is the Kaiser folks and the social conservatives in Bush's FCC are all proud and happy about what they are doing and apparently oblivious to the vast majority of Americans, many who would otherwise support this, who think it is ridiculous to go after something five years after the fact (and on a show no longer airing).

They also have a whole body of work relating health with entertainment, all of which IMO have a heavy presumption of censorship as cure. Their work has been cited by those interested in greater socal control from Tipper Gore to Jerry Falwell

China worries a lot about media content that does not promote "social harmony" and censors heavily with that as justification. I prefer to expect people to take great responsibility for getting their ass off the sofa and raising their kids to have better taste and values than most media outlets cater to. I don't expect our media to mold us into healthy and moral citizens

Agreed. However, all I was really saying is it seems that the article just slapped her picture in there, but it was made out that the KFF worked together with the FCC on this one.

You're right. The technical term for the family friendly stuff is "safe harbor." The non-family friendly stuff can air between 10p-6a. However, the FCC interprets everything by local time zone, so as others have pointed out, Central and Mountain time zones are screwed when it comes to content.

What I don't get is that people are bothered by nudity on TV, but shows like L&O SVU get a free pass to discuss graphic sex crimes? How does that work?

That is the exact crap that pissed me off during the Grand Am coverage. My son who is 3 was watching the cars go by at 7 in the morning and what does Speed do but run an FX promo for the Shield and Rescue Me. It scared the hell out of him. What the hell are they doing running Dennis Leary's face in flames and Michael Chiklis going nuts at 7 ****ing AM? Same goes for just about every other sport. Each broadcast network has an east and west feed, so one set is eastern/central; the other is mountain/pacific. I'm not sure if the calbe networks have such an arrrangement of not.

Some channels have western feeds some don't. It can get confusing comparing cable to satellite schedules in the mountain time zone which most people try to pretend does not exist.

My cable company offers the Central feed, which is Eastern.

My local stations have the eastern feed, and so we celebrate new years at 11:00 PM Mountain time, because they delay the live program one hour.

Thank God for satellite, now we can actually watch live TV

I thought the last time I saw Kitchen Nightmares on BBCAmerica, that there was bleeping of a few words. I could be wrong.

I'm surprised that the FCC hasn't cracked down on the Canadian channels that are received in the US. CBC is an over-the-air station here, and some of their programming can be a little jarring if you're not expecting it. I've been watching the Secret Lives of Hockey Wives, and some of the language and situations are especially shocking for a 9pm show.
