Is it even possible to buy an "engine kit" today from any of the manufacturers in the irl?

According to the highly acclaimed IRL expert HWC,

"All three of the automakers agreed to the IRL requirement of selling completed engines or kits at the specified price. Toyota and Honda had no takers for their purchase deal because they priced their lease package cheaper than the mandated purchase option. It is hard to argue that the teams are getting screwed by that."

To translate what Webbie wrote in English:

CART engine leases-EVIL
IRL engine leases-GOOD

It is hard to argue that the teams are getting screwed by that. One minute they're complaining because there won't be a full field because Honda and Toyota won't let teams run an extra car with a leased engine, the next minute they're praising Honda and Toyota for saving the teams money.

Ostriches can be so confusing. :shakehead

I think it's something like this:

T or H prefered teams - $300-350k

T or H , show up and buy one out of the back of the trailer - $600-650k. Of course, 90 days notice.

Chevy - Blue light special, $200k or less. Will offer to paint loser on your sidepods for free, just to take one off their hands.

I could be wrong, but I've seen these numbers floated around. Railbird could probably answer this better. ;)

Of course, Webb has no sources indicating that this is the truth. In fact, the only quoted sources (former team owners) indicate a cost of $1.7M to $2.5M - which is more to lease an engine per race, than to purchase a brand new 2002 Speedway Chevy and trash it every race. Webbonomics indeed.

The funny thing is seeing the Lemmings discuss what adjustments they think are needed. They don't seem to recognize that Honda and Toyota are now as much in control of the IRL as they were of CART. They signed on under certain conditions. If Tony tries to change the arrangement after the fact Toyota and Honda could walk away tomorrow and take their teams with them.

"Webbonomics" LOL

Thats where 1 plus 1 equals 4 one day and 1/2 the next.
