Its about time he landed somewhere. The Foppa Sweepstakes had gone on long enough. I really thought he would end up in Philly, what with Gagne getting hurt again.
Anyone want a redheaded offensive defenseman? Answers to Brian Campbell. Available to a good home for a bag of pucks or a 10-pound catfish.

Meh, yer just pizzled that the Phlyers and Briere ended the 10-game losing streak vs. the toothless Sabres. :p
Tomorrow should be quite interesting with so many teams near the Mendoza line of the NHL. Dear Santa, all I want for Xmas is Brad Richards in a CBJ sweater. :D

Yes, I'm pizzled about last night's loss. They blew a three goal lead at home. That takes talent (and not the good kind). I was there and thought the crowd was going to riot at the end.
Campbell is so not worth the $6 million per year he's asking for. He's also lost a lot of fan support by taking his negotiations public. He's also been in some PR hot water ever since his drunken bar singing antics (note: f-bomb at :40) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vn9iVGlO8Io) hit YouTube and AOL picked up on it. And finally, he looks like Youppi, the Montreal mascot. (http://shotsoffthecrossbar.wordpress.com/2008/01/29/separated-at-birth/)
And I hate to burst your bubble on the Richards to the CBJ's, but Yahoo is reporting that Dallas has traded Mike Smith, Jeff Halpern and Fistric to the Lightning for Richards.

I never expected to get him since he needs to waive his NTC to approve where he's traded. Dallas is a natural fit to make the playoffs ASAP. :( The CBJs are in the mosh pit of average teams in the NHL these days. :irked:

That was Douger Mac, yo. He gripped and took Fedorov and two weeks later Big Bird was traded to San Josie for less than the CBJs sent to the Ducks. :irked: Richards == top line C CBJs have been missing forever.

Well, at least Regier got something before Soupy walked out the door on 7/1 for nothing. I'll take Bernier and the draft pick.
However, I still feel another Buffalo shoe is going to drop. We've got too many forwards right now. Management better not touch Gaustad, Stafford or Hecht.

I'm currently reading a freak out by Dallas fans over the Richards deal. They're ready to roast Hull over an open fire.
And Regier would totally cut Kevin Lowe if he tried to pull a Vanek again on any of the Sabres RFA's (Gaustad, Paille and MacArthur). So would most of Buffalo for that matter.

Sounds like the business sense of the Colorado Rockies. Extorting the fans always leads to ruin. Hell, they won't even sell out playoff games I bet. What franchise owners need to come to grips with is that winning fills the stands (except for the Chubs). Back to more important things, bring on Chris Drury!!!!!!!! :D

So that's why it was so easy for B-lo fans to invade C-bus last year. (Leading to our first "classless" accusation.)
And Soupy looks like he was hit by a bus. On the one hand, I feel bad for him, but on the other hand, he dragged Zednik's name into it as the reason for him wanting a long term deal.
Back to more important things, bring on Chris Drury!!!!!!!!
That would complete the "trade like its the late 90s" theme of today.

Conditional #1, plus another conditional pick if he re-seigns with them. You can have him. He wanted $4mm per to re-sign for two years here. Not worth it. He might be lucky to get $3mm now.

Not to speak for Cork, but believe he affiliates himself with the Sharkies...but I'm not sure I'd refer to Corky as a fan of anything. :saywhat: :irked:
This pretty much sums up my feelings on the abortion that was trade deadline day for the CBJs:
So, Richards gets away, and Foote sprints to catch the next flight to Calgary for the Avs' game last night, and what comes next? Sergei Fedorov gets traded to the Washington Capitals for a 19-year-old defenseman. OK, it's time to gut the team. There's a huge hole at center. The captain has fled. The playoffs are a dream, so get on with it and move Michael Peca, David Vyborny, Ron Hainsey and the rest. What the heck. Jody Shelley was shipped for a sixth-round pick, wasn't he? Get on with it, and pile up the picks and prospects. It's the smart play.
But the deadline passed without another ripple. So ended an odd and vexing day, with a tough job left half done. Without Richards, without Foote, without Fedorov, the playoff push turned into a Sisyphean task. The ability to lure future free agents became more difficult. The sales pitch to fans got thinner.
Doug MacLean managed to drive 5,000 season ticket-holders out of the building when the economy was good and the team was bad. Now, the economy is bad and the team is mediocre. Pity the scalpers.

The Ottawa Senators, looking sluggish in a recent, lengthy slump, on Wednesday fired coach John Paddock.
General manager Bryan Murray will take over coaching duties for the last 18 games of the regular season. Murray was coach when the Senators advanced to the Stanley Cup finals in 2006-07, but stepped aside to become GM during the summer, and Paddock was given the job as coach.

After reading Marty Brodeur's book, I don't think the Devils are as bad as most people make them out to be.
Steve Bernier just picked up a heck of a lot of fans last night. Two goals, an assist and an almost fight at the end of the game (fist cocked and all ready to go except for a linesman getting in the way).
And did Soupy really turtle against Rick Nash last night? I can't tell from the game reports, and we all know how reliable message board postings are. ;)

Very carefully. I usually just go with whatever team plays against a Cleveland team. ;) How about you? Just pick the ones with the longest time b/w championships? :gomer: :p
As I've explained previously, I grew up in the 70s and followed the Phlyers. I liked the Broad Street Bullies brand of hockey they played, and in the 80s I hated Gretz, Skeletor, etc. and the dreaded Oilers. The Phlyers faced them in the Cup finals a couple of times. These days I'm so busy with the kids and work, I barely have time (nor the stomach) to follow the CBJs let alone Philly.

Here's the follow up on the Nash/Soup dust up the other night:
-- Tough call on Rick Nash, when he got the roughing penalty and Sharks defenseman Brian Campbell didn't. Here was Nash after the game: "I asked him to fight. I asked him two times, actually, and I thought I heard him say 'yes.' I thought his gloves were off, too, and then I felt somebody grab me from behind. If he's going to run around and hit people like that -- like he hit me, and he hit Brule -- he's going to have to answer to somebody eventually."
-- Here's Ken Hitchcock on that call and another call later in the game, a botched icing call: "There were a couple of calls we thought were extremely poor. An offside, a call on Nash. But those are issues that, when you’re whining and sniffling, that’s what you’re complaining about."

Yeah, that's some serious bad karma. That whole situation smelled like a turd when he put his house on the market last September to 'downsize' (he has young kids, with @ least one boy that was playing in the 7/8 year-old league here). Arace wrote a piece on the situation on Sat as well:
http://dispatch.com/live/content/bluejackets/stories/2008/03/01/arace01.ART_ART_03-01-08_C1_V49GNET.html?sid=101
Lesson No. 1: Foote said he put his Dublin house on the market last summer because he wanted to "downsize." What he didn't say was he was hunting for a smaller house in the greater Denver area.
Lesson No. 2: Foote professed shock that he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche -- yet he rigged the game for just this outcome.
Here's what we know:
Jackets management wanted to continue negotiating with Foote. It wanted him here for the final stretch of the season. It was willing to lose him without compensation this summer, if it came to that -- which is a testament to its soaring regard for the captain. But Foote wanted $4 million a year for two years, an exorbitant price -- and if he didn't get it, his demand was to be moved to Colorado. And make no mistake, it was a demand.
A private jet, possibly leased by Foote's agent, took off from Pittsburgh on Monday night -- some 16 hours before the trade deadline -- and parked itself at Port Columbus overnight. This is the jet that whisked Foote to Calgary in time for him to suit up for the Avalanche on Tuesday night. Foote prearranged to have a pile of tickets ready for his friends and family.
I respected Footer while he was here. I always thought he was a good D and C, but not great. Now I've lost all respect for him. There's simply too much to this situation for this not to be true.
Oh, and his kid on th elocal 7/8s team? Never said goodbye to his teammates either. That one didn't fall far from the tree.
Thanks, Cap. :irked: :saywhat:

Hey, I hope y'all make the playoffs so we get that #1 you overpaid for him this year and not next season. :gomer: I also hope he re-signs with y'all so we get that extra #4 pick you overpaid for him again. :gomer: I also hope Jody Shelley shoves a stick up his ass the next time y'all play the Sharkies. :D

Wow, tell us what you really think. :)

Who gets more press on their return tonight: Foppa or Sid?
NJD, holla.
I'm actually impressed by the Debbies this year. They didn't go hog wild spending in the off season, they've kind of stopped killing hockey with the trap, they've got a bright shiny new arena, and they've got defensemen coming out their ears after the trade deadline. If they get their offense on the same page at the same time, look out NHL.
NJD, holla.
All hail the tallest dwarf! :gomer: If the playoffs started today, that would be a fun matchup b/w NJD and the Sens.

Forsbad is on the tube right after the mercy killing the Phlyers inflict on the Sabres. ;)

The Snooze is reporting that Ruff has had many, many profanity laced tirades at the team in the past couple of days. Not that they haven't deserved them, of course. I hope the team takes them to heart and comes out flying. It would be nice to read something in the paper other than the team sucks and Ryan Miller's going to jump ship to Detroit at the end of next season.

Could be worse...they could start playing some games in Toronto. @ least then there would be one NHL team in Toronto. :D

One other Foote tidbit. Calgary coach Mike Keenan said the Flames knew early in the day that Foote was coming to Calgary and planned to play last Tuesday. (Remember, Calgary is on Mountain Time.) In fact, Calgary's equipment staff sewed a No. 52 and "Foote" on the back of a Colorado jersey. Apparently teams help each other out when things like this happens.

The Phlyers couldn't mercy kill a fly right now. I was @ The OSU hoops game last night. How'd that 3 goal 3rd period go? Phlyers shooting pucks @ their own net? :irked:

The 3 Sabres goals were a fustercluck if you were a Phlyers fan. The refs missed a too many men on the ice call when Derek Roy jumped off the bench early during a 4-on-4. Roy scored on the ensuing breakaway. Pominville did whatever he does to slip it in past Marty, and Afinogenov found the two inches of space between Marty and the post on a bad angle shot.
I was also amused by Miller chasing Upshall around the net and whomping away at him after some slashing in the crease.

Gee, sounds like a CBJ game. Must be a theme here. Mebbe I should switch allegiances to the Dead Wings or NJD. ;) One would have thought that Hatcher being shelved would have improved this bunch. Perhaps they got confused last year when they signed G Marty B, thinking he was the NJ version. :irked: I'm telling ya, the Phlyers are cursed by Pelle Lindbergh to this day. RIP, Pelle.

I like Marty Biron, but I think he's an average starting goalie. He's certainly not the other Marty B. that's in NJ.
And who's Pelle Lindburgh? Wiki's got nothing about him.

Ya gotta spell it right, yo.

Having gained fame while playing for local team Hammarby in his youth and for the Swedish National Team in the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, Lindbergh set his sights on the North American game. After being drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft (2nd round, 35th overall), he started out his North American career during the 1980-81 season by playing a couple seasons for the Maine Mariners of the AHL before playing his first games for the Flyers in 1981-82. In 1982-83, he was named goalie of the NHL All-Rookie Team. He led the NHL with 40 victories during the 1984-85 season and won the Vezina Trophy, the first European goaltender to do so in NHL history. That same year, he was also named a First Team All-Star.
On November 10, 1985, he drove his customized Porsche 930 Turbo into a wall in front of a Somerdale, NJ elementary school, fatally injuring himself and also injuring two others. Pelle died the next day, November 11th at the age of only 26. The medical staff at the hospital kept him on life support until his father arrived from Sweden to say his final goodbye, signing the papers to end life support. At the time, he was returning from the Coliseum, the former practice center for the Flyers located in Voorhees, NJ. Law enforcement disclosed that he was intoxicated at the time of the accident, with a blood alcohol content level of .24%, well above .1% which was New Jersey's legal limit at the time. Pelle Lindbergh topped the fan voting for the 1986 NHL All-Star Game. It would mark the first time a player was chosen posthumously for an all-star team in a major American team sport. Sean Taylor's selection to the 2008 Pro Bowl was the only other time this has happened.
Arguably Pelle's passing opened the door for Ronnie Hextall, who won the Conn Smythe a few years later on a losing team.
