Science fiction writer Sir Arthur C Clarke has died aged 90 in his adopted home of Sri Lanka, it was confirmed tonight.

Awhile back I read a book of his entitled Glide Path, where he described how he and others developed glide path radar sytems for airstrips during WW2, so they could bring in the planes safely during bad weather and fog. He really was a brilliant scientist, as well as an entertaining writer and movie maker.

Sorry...been naming my computers HAL for years. Figured anyone who knew where "HAL" came from would also know how it was derived.

Mr. Clarke made some tremendous contributions to the Sci-Fi world. He will be greatly missed... :(

Read a lot of Arthur Clarke when I was a kid. His ideas were unique and his story telling was gifted. I'm glad he managed to live to a ripe old age in his adopted home of Sri Lanka.
