For guys who can't balance on two wheels?
I'm still waiting for enclosed motorcycles with gyroscopic leveling system for stopping. :)

I see what they are doing based on their success with the Ski Doo and Sea Doo. And I know some aging Boomers who no longer are comfortable with their bikes because if they fall over their lack the strength to pick it up.
Still, I'm not sure the SeaDoo thing translates to bikes and the aging boomer thing may be a limited market. Maybe not.
Something more car like that can seat people side by side and perhaps out of the elements may have more market given energy costs. Think atom with a windscreen, perhaps detuned a bit. High mileage but still wicked fun.
I did see one the other day and now I know what it was.
Last fall I saw some dude driving southbound toward Indy on I-65 in one of these

Dude, Im all over that if I could get a couple of 'car' seats on it. :D

Yeah, looks like a very fun toy but aging boomers aren't going to like a seating position that has them sitting on their wedding tackle... at least not after their first bout with epididymitis. There is a reason guys favor Harley's (or similar seating positions) more as they age...:D
One of the great advantages of a motorcycle is that you occupy a very narrow piece of road. Giving that up without getting enhanced protection from the elements or side by side seating doesn't buy you much beyond the fact that the thing won't fall over when you stop. It'll also take up a lot of garage space.

Just so you know, they are now being made at VIR and they have a school there.
Originally they had Honda I4 turbos. I don't know how the Eurotecs compare

My dad test rode one last weekend up here in the Twin Cities. Considering how limited his ride was since it was snowing, he was overall a really big fan of the ride. In terms of mileage, this dealer has been selling them for about as long as anyone in the States has, and they have experienced between 40-45 mpg under regular driving conditions. Also as a point of reference, the semi-automatic is not out quite yet. The strange thing that my dad noticed is that there is only a foot brake, as both the front and rear braking systems are electronically integrated. No matter what people think of this machine, you should take a look at it just for the aerodynamics around the front of it, very nice.

Absolutely I plan to check it out, thanks for the info.
40-45 doesn;t seem like much....it would be one way to justify buying it. If it holds 2 comfortably, it will help me as a buyer.
I think it would have all the bad points of a car and a bike in one ugly lump. :\
I would rather have that Subaru quadbike that mad Kiwi made. :gomer:
My father had a Morgan three wheeler, btw, but not for long. ;)
I did find this, if you really want a three wheeler. http://www.3wheelers.com/enter.html

I remember when I was running with a 3 wheeler gang. We were too cool to sit and pedal those high performance machines. We would toss the seatback into the woods and kick it skateboard style. Ramps, smashups, around the block races...we OWNED that neighborhood!!
We used to ram those dorks on their Green Machines off the sidewalks. Losers.

40-45 mpg under regular driving conditions. Sounds right on the money for a one liter 100hp nominal engine in a sled with that kind of weight. I got 42mpg on my R1100RS and the same on my touring rig with similar power and weight.

That baby really fills a void in the automotive industry. Not unlike the IRL, it's the answer to the question nobody asked. :gomer: Oh, I think it does fill a void, but that void consists of people that are either to lazy to learn to ride a motorcycle, too timid or physically incapable of riding one. I guess we'll get to see if that's a big enough void.
Bombardier tries to draw parallels to the snowmobile and personal watercraft, which were totally new inventions. This is not. I'm sure Bombardier has marketing studies that show a market exists. We'll get to see if they were right or not.

Twin turbo V6 and it's only putting out 240hp? Up the boost man, up the boost!!!
An MPI 4.3 Mercruiser puts out 220hp with no turbo's. Sure it weighs 900lbs though.
How many liters is yours and do you know how much it weighs?
All boats suck gas.

Small, cheap, efficient, fun, you can drive it in the rain, there's room for some stuff, it gets better mileage than that tricycle and you probably won't die in it.
It comes in look-at-me yellow, too. :tony:

Obsessed?
You asked for opinions, and I offered mine. You then asked about mileage and mentioned two-passenger ability, implying that you care about both. If those, and presumably small size (and yellowness) are your criteria, I suggested something that I think would be a better fit. Given your occasional propensity for wackiness, I'd think that maybe a cycle wouldn't be the best choice for you. I don't want to read about you in the paper. Well, not for that, anyway. :D

Small, cheap, efficient, fun, you can drive it in the rain The main flaw with the Smart Car these days is that they are sold out more than a year in advance. It's actually a nice car and fun to drive. I was surprised that it has decent power and the automated manual operated just like the one in my M3. Handling is very Mini-like, in other words like a kart. It has a well designed survival cell that the dealers proudly display. I'd still prefer a Mini but the Smart Car makes sense for urban living or a 2nd car.

Right, but this thread is about the Can Am trike where the rider is 100% in the crumple zone.
BTW, our Federal nanny probably won't let us have the X-Bow for street use, but I haven't heard anything certain. I'd love one. The Audi 2.0L turbo can be easily tweaked to 300hp and I suspect that would be quite amusing in a 700kg sled. :D

'Why' is the question. :) Why is right. The original reason that Morgan did trikes was to get around registration fees for four wheeled cars and provide cheaper transportation. Making a hobby sports racing car with three wheels makes no sense to me give the stability issues.
