The same as Sarah Fisher, or any other female backmarker.

Sarah Fisher got a lot more press than Milka Duno ever has.

The biggest stars in the U.S. racing world have been and continue to be Americans. Winning is not enough.

Trevor and I want on a nice long bike ride and didn't turn the race on until just before the call to start engines. Sounds like I'm glad I missed all the prerace crap.

My #1 complaint was about the endless commercial breaks. And it seemed that the side-by-side deal was mostly used for yellow flag breaks (but at least we got to see Danica stomp during the side by side)

I sure miss Jim McKay, Keith Jackson, Sam Posey, Jackie Stewart and the like.

And to think I used to pull for Scott Goodyear when he was in a car.

It's already been mentioned elsewhere, but who else was annoyed by the GoDaddy commercial where the young female kart racer deliberately punts the other kid off the track, wins, and then gets congratulated by Danica?

That commercial was probably made by some advertising production folks with no racing background... but in a real-life kart league that girl would have been DQ'd (and probably suspended) for that punt.... NOT receiving the winners trophy.

As, IIRC, cart7 put it on TF, that's nothing compared to those d@$% Warren Wallace Geico commercials. Those were cute..., for a month. Now, that kid needs to smacked.

As for the race, sure it was messy, but the outrage some (Chief) are showing is overwrought. I think, given the lousy weather all month, combined with the number of first-timers at IMS, that this was pretty predictable (no excuse for the wankerism DURING the yellows). Was it the prettiest ever? Hell no, but then again, other than the final 20 laps, '92 was likely worse.

And it had its moments too (Kanaan-Marco: BTW- Given how hard it was to pass, I don't blame Marco for having the gall to be agressive. Meira's pass(es) on that restart was phenomenal). Plus, while no John Barnes fan, I DO love one-car efforts seriously threatening the Big Three, and Meira had a heck of a run.

Anyway, a more in-depth analysis from my blog. (http://racingandpolitics.blogspot.com/2008/05/rough-and-tumble-92nd-indy-500.html) Did I mention that Dixon's wife was HOT?

Yes, ABC sucked, as usual. Arute is a tool. Musberger is annoying. That said, the pit folks did a better-than-expected job.

Completely OT, but listening to the Sam Posey intro's for F1 this year is one of my highlights.

Dude, that was clearly weather related, as even drivers like MA (the greater, not the lesser) got bitten by the track that day. Put this field in those conditions and mebbe 5 cars finish the race. The fact that Special Ed ended up in the top 5 speaks volumes in itself. :saywhat:

I think that is more of a reflection of the series she was in, not the fact that she was British.

well that, and the fact she didn't really do much to warrant any attention. running around at the back a few laps down every race isn't gonna make you a star.

Princess Permapout screws the pooch again.

Other than that, sounds like a race to be forgotten, which basically I did since after grilling some NY strips, b-sized reds, a few ears of corn and demolishing a couple bottles of decent Hunter Valley shiraz I got involved with the Reds marathon 12-9 loss in extra innings.

Yo, they pick the time for the calls not me. They're the client.

I hauled myself away from a great Memorial Day party to take his call, which finally came 90 minutes later (when I was on the phone with another of his mates). I rescheduled and just now got off the phone with him. But I'm not complaining. It is my chosen profession.

But he's actually a Kiwi and pretty please about Dixon winning the 500. The others I've talked to in the last day are more talkative about Weber's finish at Monaco... mostly because they expect a brainfade from him. Their words not mine.

So I spent the day removing a couple of 40' aspens that finally died this spring and I cut & split about 1/2 a cord of firewood in the process.

Sorry to hear about your Aspens. We have a grove on the side of our house that are dying along with a handful of pine trees... We think it's an issue with our soil.

I'm tired & a bit confused by the results of the race. Servia & Power were well off the pace in qualifying and had been complaining about how their cars were woefully slow. So how in holy hell did they manage to finish on the lead lap of a 500 mile race?

Way too many cautions for anyone to run away and start lapping the field. Wilson ran with the cars up front after he screwed up and missed the call for his first pit stop. If either he or Graham were running @ the end, they would have made top ten or possibly top five.

The Aspens never should have been planted this low in the valley. They are mountain trees and they don't take to Salt Lake Valley heat and they will die at about 30-40 years. Why people plant them here is beyond me. That and they spread by suckers that sprout all over your yard:mad:.

Yep. Padres WIN! It's about time. :D

The race: Unwatchable. I faded into a merciful haze. It was nearly unbearable. No, it WAS unbearable. The side by side was for the yellows so half (only slight exaggeration) of the few laps of green were raced under actual commercials so we saw nothing.

Good comments on the thread but no one has mentioned how Goodyear (?) pointed out TWICE with on screen graphic support that Danica was lifting in all the corners. He commented TWICE that she wasn't doing her part to keep the car in the front. Can't remember his words but I could hardly believe there would be a *criticism* of Princess Sparkle Pony. Needless to say, it never happened again.

Something must have been going away with Servia's car because he was up to 8th and then faded. Then everyone pitted. He was up to 9th, then faded. I SO wanted him (or any "transition team" driver) to be in the top 10. I'd be obliged if someone could find out what happened. I am not in the mood to read any KK-related website just yet.

I disagree. The race itself was just another post 1996 Indy 500 IMHO. BUT, that TV broadcast stunk. The ABC obsession with Danica is beyond untolerable. IT overshadowed the race itself and all the other 32 drivers in it....while continuing to tarnish EVERYTHING about what the race once was. So yes, it STUNK...and that is not overwrought.

We all remember Janet Guthrie and Lynn St. James too. NO ONE ever had to march them around to publicity DURNING the race. They were one of 33 (or of 28)..and that was it. TG is allowing ABC to hype this crap and it is sickening, almost to the point of sensationalism just like all their other POS programming. Please give AOW back it's dignity....that's what the IRL stripped from the sport.

The largest and oldest single living organism on earth is a clonal Aspen colony that covers 107 acres in the Fish Lake National Forest in Utah. It goes by the name of Pando. Check out the wiki link here:

We watched. Me, wife, daughter, Mom, Dad, sister, her boy friend, nephew and his girlfriend. Ate blue crabs and drank beer. I was preety buzzed by half way but that's for another forum. My wife won the pool (we pick drivers out of a hat. $3 a pick). My dad told stories of going to Indy in the 60's as guests of the STP team. Twas a good time.

Like Chief said, it was a typical post lockout IRL, crapwagon Indy. I think Kanaan could have won. With about 50 to go, going green after one of the many yellows (and it wasn't so much that there were many yellows, it was the length of them. Nine laps to pick up a frickin' mirror? Puleeze!) dad and I pointed out that now you'll start to see them run full rich and pick up the pace. The green flag restart was "hold your breath" kind of maneuvering. I'm surprised there wasn't "the big one". But then they never really got into that intense end of the race racing that CART used to be so good at places like Michigan and Milwaukee. It's the car. The cars suck, suck, suck. They suck so bad that they suck really bad.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed and staying involved. I know too much about this sport to just walk away, but I will if they don't fix the car.

It was still better than the NASCAR race I tried to watch.
