Snyder was hit by a foul ball off the bat of Milwaukee outfielder Corey Hart in the fourth inning. Snyder was diagnosed with a left testicular fracture and will have surgery on Wednesday.
Chris Snyder placed on DL (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080701&content_id=3042535&vkey=news_ari&fext=.jsp&c_id=ari)
If you read that without wincing, you're lying.

fracture = rupture in this case also known as a tear in the tunica albuginea that requires surgical correction.
Sounds less painful when you say it in latin...

I played organized football for 29 years. Age 11 to 40. Midgets, HS, highly competitive Division II program and then highly competitive national travel 9 on 9 team.
I can say I used a cup for exactly one practice in all that time.
But when you compare it to the likely 15 concussions I've had, the countless slobberknockers I've taken, and the gruesome blown knees, arms and shoulders I've witnessed, a shot to the nuts was not something of primary concern. In fact, maximizing agility and the ability to inflict pain on the opponent are seen as important factors in keeping Mr Johnson and company happy and safe.
And I have three healthy happy children and a happy wife to show for it
For those paying attention, in the last 20 years, hip (girdle) pads and knee pads and even smaller shoulder pads are the trend for exactly the same reasons.
