I say yes! A practical man, however, would say no. :) I'm going to do the IMAX next week I think, definitely worth a 2nd viewing and I'm kinda fuzzy on the ending once the vodka kicked in... but Heath Ledger was great, really. awesomeness all around except for gyllenhal who was meh, but less meh than katie holmes was

Only about 20 mins. were filmed in large format (IMAX), but it IS the action scenes.

Wow, that is lame. I'd expect shortcuts like that from Sony when sticking a movie on BR disk, but sheesh. Isn't IMAX 4x the resolution? They upsampled the rest of the 130 mins... :yuck:

Agreed. I may make the 2+ hour drive for it after seeing it in a boring old megaplex Friday morning.

heard it was still 100% awesome-o.
I watched Burton's '89 version last night, as it was the best of the original Batman movies. My how that movie sucked in retrospect. Silly special effects and too cartoonish. I'm going to catch TDK on Friday. Good reviews all around for TDK.

Yeah it may be a good movie but this is just plain stupid....
A man anxious to see the new Batman movie missed out on the ending after police arrested him for leaving his child in the car. The 2-year-old boy was found sitting in a car in the parking lot of the theater Saturday night. Even though it was dark outside, temperatures in the car were still high, and that wasn't the only threat facing the child. This happened in South Salt Lake at 1:00 in the morning. The child had been in the car for well over two hours in a parking lot that has signs that say "park at your own risk." The boy's father, 23-year-old David Farnhan, was inside the air-conditioned movie theater watching the 11 p.m. showing of "The Dark Knight." Luckily, other moviegoers saw the child crying in the car and called for help. Authorities got there quickly. When they finally got the boy out of the car, he was dehydrated and scared but in relatively good condition. It is not clear why Farnhan left the child in the car, but officers say he was aware the child was there. Farnhan was pulled out the movie theater and arrested. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of child abuse and child neglect. The child is back with his mother now, who shares custody with Farnhan, and is said to be in good condition.

I wonder who the villains for the next installment of the series will be. all the main actors are signed for a 3rd film but Nolan isn't. yet... his writing & research definitely made the films what they are.
I'm thinking best fits for this kind of universe would be a Unabomber version of the Riddler, a Mad Hatter that's a disgruntled Wayne Enterprises scientist pissed at the new playboy owner & shutdown of applied research, Dr. Harley Quinzell meeting the Joker in Arkham who hunts down Batman as retribution, and Ra's al Ghul's daughter Talia w/ the revenge angle as well...
SPOILER ALERT
despite Ledger's absolutely phenomenal performance, I wouldn't be opposed to someone trying to fill his shoes since the storyline leaves that angle open

I remember the early 90s cartoon when it was Batman putting them back into Arkham and then invariably they would escape again.
The best villain story line from the animated series was Mr. Freeze. The Arnold on was horrible. However you tube the animated series version, it had a lot of character depth and background.

$400 million at the box office in only 18 days - the fastest pace ever
They should have to figure inflation into numbers like that. It would be a whole lot harder to get to $400 million in 1976 at $2.00 a ticket than it is today.

too many things have changed to give you a fair comparison of movies over time.
there are an increased number of theaters
the population has increased
movie lengths are different
increase in the overall number of movies
theatrical run time has decreased
ticket prices have increased
more competition with TV
movies are released in formats for the home now within 4-6 months

There are three films from that era in the top 400 unadjusted all-time box office. Two from the 30s and one from the 40s in that list: Gone, Snow White and Bambi. Those were the Titanic, Dark Knight and Star Wars of their era by far. No wonder Walt had the coin to build his dynasty.

You can extend it all the way up to the late 60s
1937 Snow White
1939 Gone With the Wind
1942 Bambi
1961 101 Dalmatians
1964 Mary Poppins
1967 Jungle Book
That is it, there are no movies from the 1950s at all. A 19 year interval with no movies making the list.

You're right, the list before 1970.
1937 Snow White
1939 Gone With the Wind
1942 Bambi
1961 101 Dalmatians
1965 The Sound of Music
1965 Doctor Zhivago
1964 Mary Poppins
1967 Jungle Book
1967 The Graduate
1969 Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
So Disney has 5 of 10.

And my guess is that there's only another 10 or so on the list from the 70s. So that's like 380 of 400 from the 80s, 90s and 00s. Wow.

Taking inflation into account, "The Dark Knight" trails both movies in actual tickets sold, however. "The Dark Knight" would need to gross about $900 million to match the number of admissions for "Titanic" and about $1.2 billion to equal "Star Wars."
