now I realize the owners of Versus are trying to make it (eventually) a competitor to ESPN for national sports coverage, but they're not there yet.
If they want to compete, maybe they shouldn't use ESPN productions.
"Nice idea... is April too late for an A1GP race?"
Bingo

If they want to get out of the 600s tier maybe they should get some programming people actually want to watch instead of taking ABC/ESPN2 castoffs.

Hey, they're up there with SPEED, NBA TV, Golf and Regional Sports! :)

I wonder if they tried DirecTV? They've been doing a ot of exclusive programming of late. We've had extra (HD) channels for some recent major golf and tennis tournaments. They bought the rights to the first run of Friday Night Lights 3rd season. I know you limit your audience even more (16-17M subscribers), but you may've gotten even more stuff televised. Although, there is something to be said about limiting how much crap you televise so you reduce the risk of people seeing it. ;)

Seeking a sponsor
The IndyCar Series still does not have a title sponsor, and a new cable TV contract with the Versus network might have scared away two interested companies. Officials say they need a signed contract by the end of October to have a title sponsor for 2009.

Horsefeathers! My sources tell me there's a deal lined up that would pay the League "somewhere north of 20 million Forints." Just waiting for the ink to dry...
Here (http://www.racefantv.com/NEWS-COMMENT-CDN.html) is some background info for Canadian TV viewers.

How many have Versus in their faves? Hockey fans and dudes that like to gut Reindeers. Your average surfer isn't going to stumble up into the 600's after a blown thumb and say, "Look at them crapwagons, I'm a new fan!":rofl:

a report says the Olympics mountain biking and decathlon stoled viewers from the IRL or it would have been the most biggest viewerships ever.

It's right there with SPEED in the DirecTV lineup. How many people channel surf when they have an electronic programming guide? I know everyone doesn't have one, but they are becoming more and more common. They're standard on satellite. The cable companies want to go all digital ASAP. Channel surfing is dying.

Officials for the Indy Racing League are probably happy the Olympics happen only once every four years. This year’s games in Beijing, IRL officials said, have done a number on their TV viewership lately.
The IRL’s Aug. 24 race in Sonoma County, California, earned a .41 rating, according to New York-based Nielsen Media Research. The rating for the race at Infineon Raceway, which aired at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN2, means about 450,000 households nationwide tuned in. That’s a significant decrease from the .61 rating (650,000 households) the same race earned a year ago.
“It’s the same story with a lot of ratings the last couple weeks,” said IRL spokesman John Griffin. “Everything is being overshadowed by the Summer Olympics.”

well, they've got another built-in excuse this weekend: we sucked because the US Open Tennis and a FedEx Golf tourney were on :saywhat: and 2 1/2 men and Everybody Loves Raymond were on the CW. Hopefully, they believe their own crap and are happy to be in the toilet

For me, Versus is Ch. 71. Comes right after the Yankees Channel.

If the IRL spokesdude would've checked his TV listings, he would've seen that the Olympics were not airing during race time. They signed off before the race even started!

But, but, but, I read that across the board, ratings are up, attendance is up, car counts are up (DUH!) and it's a bright new day for the Indy Racing Leeege.
Why, next year they are even going to be sending teams home before the main event and there will be no races with a car count below 28!
Honest. I really read that on the web, and not at TF!
